Vegas Video 2.0d install DirectX 8 help? anyone?

I have downloaded VV 2.0d and very much wish to try this
program. I hear so many great and wonderful things about it
but when I install I get a message saying that I must have
the DirextX 8 DV update. I installed that and the message
still plagues me when installing VV 2.0d After reading
some of the forums I decided to install all the windows
updates from Microsoft, reinstall DX8 and the DV update.
Still no worky.

Anyone else have this issue? Can Anything be done? Tricks
Tips Patches?

Windows 98SE
Athalon 800mhz
128MB RAM
20GB HDD
Hecules Nvidia GeForce MX Graphics card

Any responce would be appreciated as I am copletely out of
ideas.

Does anybody know the definitive test for whether or not DX-8a is installed and whether or not Win98SE is installed? I'm convinced that my machine has both, and yet Vegas Audio 2.0d complains that I must install DX-8a before it can install. What is Vegas checking to determine this?

Cant you just go to Start>Run>DXDIAG, and get the compupoop
you seek ?

Unfortunately, the DXdiag claims that the DX version is 8.0.
The SF guy claimed that both 8.0 and 8.0a were reported as 8.0. In my case, DXdiag says 8.0, while the 2.0d install program says 8.0 is not installed and must be before the Vegas update can continue.
So, apparently whatever DXdiag checks is not what Vegas 2.0d checks.

You need to install both of the components listed here:

There seems to be some confusion about this- quite a few
people have installed only one of them, and without both
Vegas will not install. If you have installed both, for
sure, and it still won't work, contect tech support and
they'll set you up (or pass you to an install engineer...)
