Vegas with new computer - how to optimize?

JHendrix wrote on 9/8/2023, 6:48 PM

13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-13900K   3.00 GHz

64.0 GB

NVIDEA Geforce RTX 4080

Vegas Pro 12 (yeah it is old but I upgraded a year ago had issues and went back to this for now)

I thought my timeline playback would be better with this new computer?? It is OK but cant use preview "full" without lag in intensive sections. Seems close to performance I had on previous (average spec mac with bootcamp)

any way to fine tune it to be better?

You need a modern version of VEGAS that actually uses the GPU.

Otherwise create proxy files or convert to easier to edit formats. The conversion will go faster with the new CPU.

Custom PC (2022) Intel i5-13600K with UHD 770 iGPU with latest driver, MSI z690 Tomahawk motherboard, 64GB Corsair DDR5 5200 ram, NVIDIA 2080 Super (8GB) with latest studio driver, 2TB Hynix P41 SSD and 2TB Samsung 980 Pro cache drive, Windows 11 Pro 64 bit

ASUS Zenbook Intel i9-13900H with Intel graphics iGPU with latest ASUS driver, NVIDIA 4060 (8GB) with latest studio driver, 48GB system ram, Windows 11 Home, 1TB Samsung SSD.

RogerS wrote on 9/8/2023, 9:33 PM

VP 18 or 21 will open older VEGAS projects. A user here went from 5 to 21. I have a number of VP 12 projects that I finished in later versions. If there were Fx applied that you no longer have then you might need to render out those parts in 12 or remove them to have it work as you want in 21.

Yes, I'm saying VP 12 had limited support for GPUs in preferences/ video. VP 15+ adds GPU media decoding and support for GPU-encoding capabilities as well. Newer versions also use it for 32-bit and raw video processing as well. Many of the Fx are now GPU accelerated, too.

Yes, try to reinstall those and errors should go away. VEGAS has built in LUT loaders (Fx and color grading panel) so you wouldn't need that except for legacy projects.

@JHendrix Hi, Vegas Edit has the main program, VEGAS Pro Suite has the main program + some extras & VEGAS Pro Post again has the main program & some more extras,

If I was you I would choose VEGAS Pro Suite or VEGAS Pro Post because the added Mocha Vegas is very good & well worth the little extra price.

You do need it in VP 21 if your VP 12-era projects reference this Fx and you don't feel like re-adding a LUT to every event or piece of media.

somewhat confusing, looks like addon software in other versions? anyone know if enrty level is the sam as v12? for now dont need addons beyond what v12 has

RogerS wrote on 9/9/2023, 11:40 AM

VEGAS Pro the editing software is the same as VEGAS Pro 12 was. The Edit suite gives you that and nothing else.

Do you want the ability to track moving objects (for example to only color correct a person and not the background, to composite, etc.?) Mocha is excellent for that and it comes in the Pro Suite. Primatte Studio is for removing green screens. The other tools are for audio.
