I'd be happy just to see an update to Vegas 4 that fixed issues that, from what I gather, are still in 5.

I'm a stinker ain't I?

HDV version of the DVX100 is what I am looking most forward to hearing about. Thought a rumored new verison of AE might be kinda cool...can't imagine what they would add however.

And maybe not at NAB but there is an "new" NLE that is under 70 bucks that does HDV, Dolby surround and 16:9 that has built in DVD output/authoring as well as other goodies. At the price point it seems kind of, well...low priced to do what it claims to do. I need to hear more about this - I want to see it and touch it and than we can all argue about it here. :)

History says...

Vegas Video 3 = (haven't got a clue, but before June 2002)
Vegas 4 = NAB 2003
Vegas 5 = NAB 2004
Vegas 6 = *****

(please fill in the logical progression...)

Quote from SoundForge8 Online Help & Manual (p.60)
"...Sound Forge 8.0, and Vegas 6.0 software allow you to save the project path reference when you render files..."
Error?
busterkeaton wrote on 3/14/2005, 1:11 PM
Error? or just another highly accurate rumor!

WOW, Kanst.....now that IS a very revealing piece of information (otherwise known in detective Clouseau's circle as a cleeeuuuu....)

Vegas 6 WILL have an online help/manual!!!!!

*grin*

PDB, you've given me an idea for the next VASST video contest:

A chimp sitting in front of a monitor. A Clouseau impersonator looking over his shoulder.

The chimp makes a few keystrokes, grins wildly, starts chattering excitedly.

Cut to monitor, where we see an elaborate clip playing.

Cut back to Clouseau who says knowingly: "Ah, yes: Sony Vegas. So powerful. Yet so simple, even your MIN-KEY can use it."

Cut to chimp jumping up and down in his chair.

FYI. I purchased the upgrade to Vegas 4.0 on March 15, 2003 for $149.00, and I think I waited until the last day to take advantage of the $50 discount. I'm looking forward to a similar offer in the near future :). I skipped version 5.

I went to the South by SouthWest film festival in Austin, TX and got a sneak peak at some of the Vegas 6.0 features.

I am sworn to secrecy but... there are three main features that everyone has been crying for...and they are there--Sony listens. I also know the code freeze date...

We will be having something to talk about soon. Very exciting!

24p progressive HDV? You and me too hombre. Viva la revolucion.

(Shot a feature on the DVX100 and would have loved to get the depth and lack of banding that HDV promises.) And when that happens I'm sure Vegas will be right there.

Perhaps. I know I'm upgrading.

Vegas Video 3 = (haven't got a clue, but before June 2002)

I don't know why everyone says Vegas 4 was announced at NAB. Here's a Vegas 4 Beta press release dated January 16, 2003:

http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/news/ShowRelease.asp?ReleaseID=506&CatID=

Here's an announcement that Vegas 4 had begun shipping dated February 6, 2003.

http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/news/ShowRelease.asp?ReleaseID=514&CatID=

Unless NAB wasn't held in April in 2003 for some reason, it was NOT announced at NAB.

>>>there are three main features that everyone has been crying for<<<

Full EDL support, Deck Control and Hardware support? Oh wait - you said three features that *everyone* has been crying for. Now would that be on the audio side of the video side? See this could be a problem. Hmmm - rewire support? VST plug-in support? AE plug-in support? Direct HD/HDV import and export? Audio EDL support? Video EDL support? Both? long overdue fixes to the black frame/gap issue? Nested timelines? Hmmm...only time will tell huh?

he he.
busterkeaton wrote on 3/15/2005, 11:44 AM
That's true. The 4.0B update was announced at NAB2003 which was a fairly significant update with HD and 24P.

Here's the old press release

I believe the black frame thing is incredably elusive and complex and might even be equipment related and they don't have a handle on it yet so they can't fix something if there is nothing to fix.. One of the forum's posters have said in the past that intermittant random problems can always be traced to bad memory or incompatible memory. After seeing the effects of incompatible memory on my machine I believe. So believe it when I say that the black frame problem will not be fixed in the next version. I also believe the black frame, misplaced frame, bad cut frame, random rolled up frame in ripple edit, are somewhat related to the expansion and contraction of the timeline on a visual basis. I get around it by hardball eyeballing.

Crying, crying...
I'm crying for smart MPEG editing (just like Edius or Liquid)
and AC3 decoding&editing (as Nuendo or simply SoftEncode)

In ideal - miniDV as input, only one big magic button in Vegas, and as output my extra quality movie (at least 10 Oscar Awards)
:-))))))
(Some just like an old anekdot:
Father with a stupid son on father's sausage factory
Father: "Just look, son, at this magic machine! Put in a mutton, put out a sausage!"
Son: "Do you have a reverse machine? Put in sausage, put out a mutton?"
Father: "Yes, son... it's you mother!" )

HDV version of the DVX100 is what I am looking most forward to hearing about. - NOOOOOOO!!!!! I just ordered a DVX ($2739 - after the rebate - rebate makes me think their getting rid of a bunch while they still can, or not releasing anthing for a while but want to try and be competative still - but it came with Magic Bullet, and The Green DVX book and DVD all for free ( I could sell that and consider the price even better I suppose).

The next model of DVX100, DVX100B, is going to pretty much unchanged. They are changing how they build it to comply with recently enacted environmental stadards in Europe.

Their is a Panasonic HD camera coming down the road, but it's HDV. and it's going to be closer to 10K than 3K. Check out the forum on dvinfo.net

Am I the only one who doesn't understand what this is with relation to an NLE? I think of things like FrameForge when I think of storyboarding.
Could someone please educate this this poorly informed man?
busterkeaton wrote on 3/15/2005, 10:51 PM
Storyboarding is just a way of arranging shots. Feature films often draw an illustrated storyboard of a scene to show the crew how the scene is going to play, this helps the editors and lighting crew and art directors, etc.

In the context of an NLE it it was way of arrainging your shots, you put your storyboard together by choosing shots, then when you like what you have, you press a button those shots appear in that order on the timeline.

I thought it was going to be DVCPRO? - whenever it came. hmmmm Though if they did a 16:9 chi\p in a new version of the 100, I would be satisfied by that.

There is going to a new camera, I think the model is HDX100. Here's the info they released so far

"under $10,000, DVCPRO25/50/HD and 24P"

So that is not a replacement for the DVX100, but a step up. Don't take my word for it though, there is a forum dedicated to this at dvinfo.net
