Velocity envelopes for audio (Feature Request)

joelsonforte.br wrote on 7/13/2020, 11:35 AM

It would be great if Vegas had velocity envelopes for audio the same way you already have for video.

It is a very useful feature, especially when you want to preserve the sync of the video with the audio in a gradual curve where the video gradually accelerates or decreases in speed.

Example: the video starts at 100% speed and gradually decreases the speed to 25% or gradually increases the speed to 300%.

Currently, when velocity envelopes are used in video events like the example above, only the speed of the video is changed. The audio speed remains the same and the sync with the video is lost.

So far, only the Time Stretch / Compres Tool (CTRL + drag edge of event) keeps the video in sync with the audio, but does not offer the possibility of creating a gradual curve in which the video and audio will speed up or decrease the speed gradually.

The SpeedRamp tool in HOS by @wwaag can do that. It provides for a gradual increase and decrease in both video and audio while maintaining sync. Here's a link to a demo. https://tools4vegas.com/speedramp-demo/

you can pseudo simulate that with pitch

+1
Would actually be the logical "step 2" in the implementation.

A very good suggestion.

joelsonforte.br wrote on 7/16/2020, 3:31 AM

@fr0sty

I even tried to use the Elastique Time Stretch plugin that is native to Sound Forge, but that Vegas can recognize and use. I automated the Time Stretch Ratio parameter that creates an envelope in the Audio Track allowing the creation of envelope points with an increasing or decreasing curve in the audio speed. I adjusted the points and values to correspond with the points and values of the video velocity envelope.

But unfortunately I found that, apparently, the gradual curvature of the velocity envelope of the TimeStretch parameter of the Elastique Time Stretch plugin is not the same as the gradual curvature of the velocity envelope of the video. If it weren't for that detail, it would be an excellent alternative method to resolve this issue.

If audio velocity envelopes were added, Vegas would be the first video editor on the market to have this feature. I've been dreaming about this for a long time. This feature will help many people who work with changing the speed of video and audio

I managed to cut the clips' audio separately from the video and sort of stretch it as well as I could alongside, but it was not perfect and it is not ideal.

I heard we have to use sound forge, which comes with the package (at least mine did) so I guess we have to learn how to use that too.

EDIT: Oh, and since it took me a couple of minutes to find this; to separate audio from video use "ctrl + u".
Just for any other noob that came here looking for answers as to what to do.

Absolutely. This would be very useful especially as time compressing the audio by Ctrl-squishing it only goes to 4x whereas the velocity envelope now goes to 10x so trying to sync them is a mess.

Please, Magix, let the velocity envelope be "paired" to the audio track, maybe make it the default unless you split the audio event from the video event or something?

@joelsonforte.br Maybe WWAAG might come up with something along these lines? Not looking for insider info because your beta tester for HOS, but wouldn’t it be great.

I'm doing a video right now that has a jukebox being plugged back in with the sound speed ramping up. Vegas really has no way to do this easily. Even though it takes a bit longer, I just do the audio tweaks in Adobe Audition. They even have a setting for 'Power Shutting Down', which I just reversed for my needs.

It's surprising that Vegas isn't more adept at audio within the program. As far as my experience, there is no keyframing for audio FX.

@JN-

You can already do his using the SpeedRamp tool in HOS. It provides for a gradual increase and decrease in both video and audio while maintaining sync. Here's a link to a demo. https://tools4vegas.com/speedramp-demo/ I collaborated with the OP in the development of this tool.

@joelsonforte.br Indeed, you probably forgot to mention that in your opening post/remark?

@JN- I edited the post and added that information. Although I find it unlikely that the official developers of Vegas want to do this. Glad we have @wwaag.

JN- wrote on 2/9/2021, 6:24 AM

@joelsonforte.br Hopefully the Vegas team will look long and hard at your Feature request, although you don’t think its likely they will do anything . Even though I am a paid up user of the HOS utils, I wasn’t aware of that nice feature until your “Feature request”. Still, plenty of gems in VP also, no doubt, that I am unaware of.

Anyway, gotta run, trail to catch. Have a nice day.
