Forwards compatible would if Vegas 12 could open Vegas 13 veg files. For some reason it can't.

Oddly, Vegas 11 is the same way with Vegas 12 veg files. WTF!!

just to add to the 12 stability debate....

i have had a few problems with 12 - though nowhere near the level i had with 11 (though whether the last point release helped i don't know?).

a. i suffer a number of exit crashes - though annoying they don't do any observable harm

b. a lot of whiteouts while vegas thinks - methinks vegas thinks too much - though given enough time (and my patience) vegas will return

c. i love my wacom bamboo, but (and i suspect this might have been the recurring problem all along with it) i turn the 'touch' part off in vegas. i think the touch might have been confusing both vegas and myself with mixed commands

d. so far i haven't had any render problems (preview @ 250mb), though i can't say whether it's any faster than 10/11?

yes, i fully sympathize with the odd rant (and apology ;-)) displayed in this forum. it's annoying when software (anyone's) doesn't perform as advertised and the supplier doesn't jump immediately to help. this is especially true for commercial users whose livelihood depends on WORKING tools of the trade,,,,

I too get these crashes (Vegas Pro 11 /700)

More so in this version; however I now have a new system which i use for audio and video, each a separate 2 terabyte hdd sep drive for programs and an sdd to boot. i moan when i get a crash.. but it's not just Vegas.. ProTools (bless it) chucks a wobbly in the middle of a recording session while Vegas 9open at the time) sits still patiently waiting for me to continue editing work).

I umm suspect my O/s for most of the ills. (Windows 7 pro). with all the constant updates i receive its a wonder the computer can boot up at times.

reading all your problems i feel better, that Im not the only one...

to be fair all round.. all the stuff we stuff our computers with these daysd is it any wonder they dont topple every 5 minutes?

OK I'll stand up and be counted then.

I work for Image-Line (music production software, FL Studio, Deckadance & VST Plugins) and have been using Vegas since version 5. I have upgraded every version from 5 through to 11. You can check out out YouTube channel here...

http://www.youtube.com/user/imageline

We have pointed countless customers to Sony Vegas when they have asked what software we use recommend for video editing BTW.

Version 11 was and is still so buggy it's unusable for production work. Version 10 is at least usable, so I am working with that. I was not very surprised to see Vegas 12 roll out before the bugs with 11 were sorted, since that is what has been happening since version 5.

So why should we have to pay (yet again) to get bugs fixed?

FWIW the mods here deleted one of my previous posts with a similar content so I won't be surprised to see this one go also.

And a word to Sony Creative, you may want to look into our very successful business model, we provide Lifetime Free Updates. People buy FL Studio once and from then on they get every future version free. We make money from new purchases and selling plugins to the existing user-base. Both these are possible with your software also. It works from a support and business perspective, try it.

PS: I raised my concerns in private with Sony Creative about version 11 and received no response other than this pre-canned info...

https://www.custcenter.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5098

...I even predicted that they were about to launch version 12 before 11 was fixed. And they did.

Scott Fisher.

While I can appreciate your offer of a business model for SCS to look at, I just have to think we are talking apples and oranges market. Some business models scale from small to large and some do not. And I fear that is huge drawback to SCS considering your offer.
Keep in mind that the NLE editor that SCS has offered over this many years is really a case of incredible interest and dealing with many different technologies changing under the hood. Good heavens, the OS changes alone are enough to keep the head spinning. And of, course there is so much more. This requires a really definitie committment to R&D and reinvention of the product(s) placed to market.

So who's business is bigger us or Sony creative? If you'd like some statistics we have over 30,000 people download and install our FL Studio demo to try it out every day.

FWIW: We face the exact same changing landscape of hardware and OS that SCS does.

Well, I did not mean to offend, but pushing the envelope a bit, my Yahoo search engine struggled around the key words of your company. (That is, to say for it's history, not a high usage search in the usual search terms.) So I just drilled down to the corporate promo and history document - but sorry I don't see the comparison of corporates. I appreciate your good intentions and if you could ever get heads together with the marketing of SCS - I would await the results.

Hey Scott....

Some of those videos on the Image Line youtube channel were also done by us (Streamworks Audio), and we too use Vegas since 4.0 ;-)

Cheers,
Chris

Hi Chris,

Indeed. So what's your experience been?

It seems to me every other Vegas release is significantly compromised by bugs, then you get a good one. Then more bugs. The issue here is that Sony Creative are not sorting out the bugs in previous editions. So if you happen to upgrade to the latest version and it's a dud, you just wasted the money. If the next version fixes the bugs then you have to pay for the privilege?

I have 11 sitting here on my machine and it's almost useless to us. The reason I am speaking out about this is that I have had this happen for the last 8 years and it's beyond a joke. This is compounded by the operating model of Sony Creative that keep customers at arms length.

Regards Scott

I would say that 12 honestly is not ready, for myself anyways. Obviously each person will have a different experience.

Right now I am sticking with 11 as I am experiencing a large amount of crashes with 12 (some when working on the timeline, but mostly when rendering). Typically I find that the first release of a new version can have 'issues' - but after a few updates stability comes around. 11 is pretty stable for me most of the time... but Ctrl+S is by far my often used key command ;-)

Cheers,
Chris
