Very slow rendering with Vegas Pro 19

@xcxz-a I tried Resolve about 2 months ago, but I consistently had this issue where one singular frame every few seconds in the entire video file would show a "Media Offline" red image. I tried so much troubleshooting to fix that after reading so many forum posts and watching YouTube videos that claimed to be able to fix it. Unfortunately, their tips and tricks just didn't work for me. I gave up on Resolve at that point.

@kaylaalg I was just adding feathering because it was mentioned earlier & at that time i didn't now how you had added blur, so for my tests i had to keep some consistency 👍

I've used MEP since 2004, it's cheap enough for me just to keep upgrading each yr, a couple of yrs ago it got a ne Infusion Engine which made it work a huge amount better, there's a trial version but i think the max length export is 2mins .

I make vids for YT & wanted to mask the no' plate of my van, but manually tracking a mask/blur is a time consuming boring task, so I got Boris Mocha Pro but to use that i had to buy better software than MEP, Vegas is 'similar' like i say,

I still use MEP to make my simple videos, they're just the cut/trimmed clips with a 12frame crossfade between each, you can add the same crossfade to All or All after the cursor & control the length

You know as you mentioned above, after a night of editing, you just want to render, watch that rendered clip just to check it's alright with no mistakes, then get it uploaded, For me i can set MEP to render (export) a 25min 4k project, go make a cuppa, the render is done by the time i come back in about 6-8mins, i can sit down with my cuppa n watch the video before uploading to YT, if there's any mistakes it's not a huge amount of time to correct it & render again, Vegas takes about 18mins for that 25min 4k project, so now i use Vegas as more of an effects software, it'll do stuff MEP won't & all my Boris plugins work better in Vegas,

I created a 1min clip of your video & tried a dozen fxs, most rendered in about 0.55secs

these were the best

Defocus 0.43
Gaussian 0.26
Pixelate 0.25
Linear blur 0.26

@Former user @kaylaalg Resolve is the perfect marriage of Vegas and MEP, even better! Resolve has better Boris FX compatibility than Vegas, with Boris FX running smoother and less restrictive on Resolve. Boris FX has also produced more tutorials for Resolve. Resolve Studio has better preview fluency and render speed than MEP, with higher hardware utilization. That's definitely a good choice for you guys. Please give it a further exploration!

@xcxz-a Why are you in a Vegas Pro forum trying to get people on DaVinci Resolve? As I described earlier in this thread, I already tried Resolve a couple months ago and it did not work for me.

As long as you figure out a way to get over that hurdle, you can have everything you want. And it's free so therefore, it can be an auxiliary tool of Vegas without any business competition.

@xcxz-a Got Resolve, don't like the timeline, don't like that i can't just drag an event to create a crossfade, don't like the way the transitions are applied, don't like the tools for cutting etc.. the only reason it's still on my pc is because it's free, had it for a long time & played with it loads of times but still don't like it.

@Former user Once you learn to use it, it will be your best Vegas aid.

@xcxz-a They are running out of GPU for the Gaussian filter. Unless somehow the filter is using too much GPU for the effect like the Vegas Noise reduction filter does, but I dont think so at this point. I may try Resolve later to check.

I wasn't sure the GPU graph was being completely honest so I just did a check using Power(watts) instead, it's a reasonably accurate alignment. When you look at the power draw remember the poster is using a 75W card

@xcxz-a In this scenario Vegas is using more 50% more GPU to achieve the same result (internal Gaussian filters)

Render speed:

Vegas - 95fps

Resolve 276fps NVENC HEVC (Free Versioin (No hardware AVC)

Resolve 356fps NVENC AVC via Voukoder (Studio version)

The free Resolve does seem to be in the same speed/efficiency category as MEP
