Video/audio problem

Can anyone tell me (or point me in the right direction) how to do the below operation in Vegas 10d?

1) Freeze frame the a point on the video track
2) Fade that frame out for 2.5 seconds
3) Freeze frame a point 5 seconds later on the video track
4) Fade that frame in for 2.5 seconds
5) Maintain the audio track

In other words, within a 5 second span I want to freeze and fade out the video and fade the continuation of the video back in and resume normal video speed while maintaining the audio thoughout.

I tried using velocity but couldn't find a way to get a true freeze frame that I could then stretch out over 2.5 seconds going forward and backward;

Sorry if this doesn't appear to make much sense but I do have my reasons for doing this. and am not sure how to ask the right question.

Appreciate any suggestions,

TomG

I was able do it in 10.0c.

Place markers at the ponts where the action starts or changes.

Split at all the points.
Select the first segment
Zoom to selection
Insert / Video Envelopes / Event Velocity
Right Click on the first green square on the green line on the video track
Set to velocity 0%.
Use the event fader to fade to black

Thanks, John

Great, my mistake I had opened the segment in the trimmer and got myself all out of whack trying to get back the track continuity.

Your suggestion worked great for the first half of my problem. How do I do the second half which is to work backword from the video resume split fading that frame in for 2.5 seconds at 0% velocity and then resuming full velocity?

OK, I found out how to do it... thanks for the advice John. Don't know if this is the best way but it worked. I just extended the resume point frame backword one frame and split it again. Pushed that frame back to the midpoint, inserted a velocity envelope, set it to zero. and extended that frame to the resume point, and Voila.Seamless effect.

Glad you got it. You'll probably want to remove the audio quick fades at the splits since the audio is continuous.

For future searchers:
This subject was covered in this thread. The splits are probably unnecessary, though markers can be handy.
