Video Overlays

How is everyone doing overlays for their pre-recorded videos? I have found a lot of information online for how to do overlays in a Twitch stream, but I'm recording my video separately, then editing it together in Vegas. I do videos of my playing video games and I want an overlay that helps me track how many times I have died. The last video I created I had 800+ deaths so adding the death counter in the editing phase of the project is unrealistic. I need something where I can overlay as I record my video. I want something where I can easily hit a key and have it change the value of the death counter so that I don't have a lot of fussing to do each time I die (which will be a lot in some cases).

Thanks in advance for any help

As a video editor, I could probably work through an overlay problem with you.

As a drafted Viet Nam Infantryman, I'm put off by any effort where body count is the measure of success, Mr. McNamara.

Hehe, this is mostly Megaman gameplay. He's a robot, so ... technically it's not even a death counter.

How are you recording your game play? Does the software used for recording not have a Marker system of some sort? Most normal video recording apps have the facility to drop markers live as you are recording. Ususally they will be self numbering as well.

@john_dennis … I'm fully with you - what a sad place the world is becoming these days when … no, I shouldn't say any more because the moderators probably wouldn't like it for the forum.
