Video Playback Issues

I'm editing a big documentary in vegas pro 21. The video (4k) is staggering, most likely my laptop's CPU/GPU working overtime to process the video in real-time, hence the fan ramping up - the audio plays fine. What can I do to stop the stuttering/staggering video playback. I have a Lenovo Legion Pro 7 16IRX8H laptop

Have you tried proxy files yet?

Thank you Walter-i for replying. No I have not. I was directed to right-click on the file and choose that setting but unless I'm missing something, not looking close enough...and so on, I haven't seen how to do that. Suggestion?

@Duvale-Murchison First thing to try before starting creating lores proxies is to set the preview lores, means use default preview setting which is PREVIEW - AUTO. Especially when you preview in a small preview window and not on an external monitor, with 4k you will hardly see a difference in the preview between PREVIEW - FULL and PREVIEW - AUTO. For complex parts of the timeline, you always can create a prerender for a selection by SHIFT+M.
