Video Preview and Render showing Black in Vegas Pro 18

I recently upgraded from Vegas Pro 16 to Vegas Pro 18 and I've noticed now my video preview panel and all renders show black for the video. Audio still works.

The video is .MP4 so I know it's compatible with Vegas Pro. And my videos still work in Vegas Pro 16 which I have not uninstalled yet.

I don't understand what's going on or how to fix it. None of my endless searches online have come up with any results. Can anyone help me? I think it might be a Codec issue although I have K-Lite installed, and once again my .MP4's work everywhere EXCEPT in the new Vegas and it's only the video that has an issue.

EDIT: Okay I feel like an idiot now. I've spent the past 4 hours watching every single video on YouTube about black preview panels and finally found one that WORKED. I had to go to Options > Preferences > Video > And change GPU Acceleration of Video Processing to "None". I have no idea why my NVIDIA graphics card was causing Vegas 18 such agony and why it did not effect 16. I'll just take the W.

I've figured out how to fix this and wanted to share my solution in case anyone else ever has the same problem. I used the advice of this post and reset my Vegas Pro, which before now I had no idea you could do! This is amazing because uninstalling and reinstalling the program had yielded no results.

According to user NickHope:

Reset as follows:

Close VEGAS Pro

Press CTRL+SHIFT on your keyboard while double-clicking the program's shortcut icon on the desktop to launch it *.

Continue holding CTRL+SHIFT down until you see a window that asks "Do you want to reset all preferences to default values?"

Place a checkmark next to "Delete all cached application data" and then click "Yes".

For older products, continue to hold the CTRL & SHIFT keys until the program is fully loaded.

* - Note that you will not see the "Delete all cached application data" box if you open the program from the Windows Start Menu or programs list.

  • You should only install the codecs yourself, that you need for your work. K-Lite is a codec pack and installs a lot of things (often of poor quality) that just clutter the PC.

  • MP4 is just a wrapper - it doesn't say anything about the codec content itself.

  • With a new installation, the (possibly wrong) settings that you made before will be retained. When you reset these are cleaned up - for this reason you should try the reset before reinstalling.

I'm having the same issue when preview Nikon Z6 II 4K MOV on Vegas Pro 18. I don't have any issue using 4K MOV from my GH5. I have to deliver an AD for a company and now I can't work with these files. all goes black. Has anyone the same issue or know how to solve that problem without resetting Vegas?

Thank you in advance!

Suggest you upload a short clip from your Nikon to somewhere like Google Drive so others can download and try.

Paste Media Info for it here. Just because it's mov doesn't mean it's the same.

Also, what's your CPU and can you share a screenshot of your file i/o settings?
