Video preview is 30 fps when source video and project are 60 fps

I have been having this problem for years and it has been driving me crazy.

Whenever I want to work with 60 fps video in Vegas Pro, I have always had the issue of the preview in the Video Preview window showing 30 fps, even when I inch across one frame at a time. It always takes two steps forward to advance to a new frame. Likewise, if I move the source video one frame forward or backward and then inch ahead, now every odd frame shows a new image instead of every even frame.

This has nothing to do with exporting, it's only the video preview that's going crazy. It works fine for items from the media generator, or panning across the screen using Pan/Crop, but the source video itself only ever displays at 30 fps no matter how hard I try.

Has this been happening with anyone else? Has anyone else found a solution to this? Currently I'm using Vegas Pro 22.0, running on a Windows 11 laptop with an Nvidia GPU and Intel CPU.

@michaelhillus Which Preview quality are you using?

@michaelhillus Which Preview quality are you using?

I've tried all of them, best full, auto draft, and everything in between, none of them seem to fix the problem.

Is it an issue where your system is unable to read the media any faster than this? I assume the project is set to 60fps. If it's at 30 you'll never exceed 30.

Could you share MediaInfo for the media? https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-to-post-mediainfo-and-vegas-pro-file-properties--104561/

If your system is struggling you could try to right-click on the media in the project media tab and "create video proxy."

The project is always set to 60 fps by default, I almost never change it unless the media I'm working with specifically needs a certain frame rate

Creating a video proxy doesn't seem to do anything either. My system is strong enough to handle 60 fps video, the problem is Vegas doesn't preview it at 60 fps. Even if I walk forward one frame at a time, it still only shows 30 frames in one second.

@michaelhillus Where did your 60fps video come from? Did it get filmed at 60fps or have you converted it to 60fps from another frame rate?.

I recorded the footage at 60 FPS using OBS but where I get the footage usually doesn't matter, if it's 60 FPS it'll probably preview at 30 FPS instead

@michaelhillus Something strange here.

With my VP21, 50p source material in a 50p project shows on preview 50 individual frames per second. 50i source material in a 50p project behaves differently. My preview has to be on Good or Best to show 50 individual frames. Draft and Preview give 25 duplicate frames similar to what you are experiencing with your 60fps.

Please post MediaInfo on one of your 60fps OBS files. Instructions here https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-to-post-mediainfo-and-vegas-pro-file-properties--104561/
