Video Stabilization doesn't work

VEGAS PRO 17 (Build 421)

I've had a 16mm negative transferred to video.
I've separated all shots into Events.
Currently trying to stabilize each shot due to sprocket frame jitter at the neg cuts
It doesn't work, whether at the MediaFX level (using subclips) nor at the EventFX level.
I've tried the trick of cropping/contrasting a tiny point in the image I want as the foundation for stabilization. Still doesn't work.
I'm trying both Professional and Expert. Still doesn't work.

Hi Dexcon, I have the same problem. Regarding your suggestion to provide a video: As Glenn-C wrote, there isn't any effect we can show. And I am aware about the difference of media and event effects. I hope you have more to offer than these poor lines. After several month of contemplating there should be a solution.

Excuse me! That is a dreadful comment!. You possibly seem to assume that I am an employee of Vegas Creative Software. I am NOT. You don't seem to realise that this is a user forum and all that I was doing was asking to get more information about the OP's problem so that those on the forum may possibly offer a solution. Please note that the OP has not done so over the last 3 months. That is not my fault.

AND, I wasn't asking for an 'effect' to be posted - I was asking for the OP to:

post a short video example of your footage if you have an upload account like Vimeo accessible by others so that the forum can perhaps see what results we can get?

Nowhere has the OP replied that " there isn't any effect we can show" - and the original post has not been edited. AND I made no comment at all about the difference between media and event FX. Where are you getting all this nonsense from?

If you have the same problem, how about instead of inventing baseless criticisms that you do something useful and practical in order to help yourself by posting an example of your footage.

I did. Also updated to Nvidia's latest Studio drivers. Still having problems getting any consistent results.

Sorry I didn't upload any footage for people to test. I can't with this project. NDA and secrecy etc...

@Glenn-C You can appreciate that it's almost impossible to envisage the results you're getting without being able to apply the effect ourselves. Some suggestions:-

Currently trying to stabilize each shot due to sprocket frame jitter at the neg cuts. Is this jitter occurring at the end of the events? If so, try trimming the event back a few frames to eliminate this.
Are you using the Freeze Frame mode? If not, try that.
If these don't work, try again with the GPU acceleration turned off in Options/Preferences/Video.
If the sprocket jitter occurs throughout the event, I don't think that the stabilizer FX is capable of smoothing that out.

Make peace with yourself about this.

As bad as we all feel about it, that's the simple and straight truth: Vegas Stabilizer does not perform properly and there are not real fixes!

When it does work, it is the exception. I've not had many of those.

Now, really, I have no hopes for v17 to fix anything. But I sure hope v18 will, otherwise people being tired of these hiccups will probably have had one too many...

I have davinci resolve studio, but I believe the free resolve has all the stabilzation modes. You can use that until VegasPro ever gets a decent stabiliser. You have a choice of 3 algorithms

Perspective is similar to the Warp Stabilizer in Adobe Premiere Pro.

Similarity and Translation are closer to using the X, Y and Z axis to stabilize footage.

Camera Lock is a tripod stabilization mode. It will try to eliminate all of the movement in the footage. . It isn't necessary to learn Resolve, just watch a short youtube tutorial and you'll be able to impor,t stabilize ,and export.

@Glenn-C By sprocket frame jitter do you mean vertical up and down judder? I don't have any 16mm film transfers only my old 8mm of which some has bad judder as the camera mechanism wore with use.

What image size is the material you are working with and is it interlaced or progressive?
