VMS17 What am I missing?

EfGe wrote on 3/25/2022, 4:14 AM

Simple footage (1080p) running at 60fps.

All is fine.

I add one effect on the video, VEGAS Gaussian Blur 0.034 horizontal. I also add a Vegas Credit Roll for the same duration as the clip (5-8 seconds each).

The framerate drops and never recovers for the footage with the two "effects" on top.

Is there something wrong? Am I doing something wrong? Am I forgetting to do something?

Gaussian Blur is very demanding when processing so possibly using it plus Credit Roll taxes your pc?

What are your system specs?

i7 5960X, 64GB DDR4 RAM, GTX 1660 Super (6GB VRAM), OS (windows 10) installed on different SSD than the program and the video files. Both the same NVME model with different capacity. The OS on a 2TB drive and the Program on a 1TB drive. Both of about 3500 MB/s speeds.

So....this is normal behavior?

EricLNZ wrote on 3/26/2022, 5:16 AM

No, I wouldn't consider it normal behaviour especially as you have a capable machine.

You say the framerate drops. Are you talking about when previewing or rendering? Also by how much does it drop? If during preview have you tried lowering the preview quality?

Lastly post media info on your 60fps 1080p source material just in case there's something unusual. Details here https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-to-post-mediainfo-and-vegas-pro-file-properties--104561/ The instructions apply to VMS as well as VP.

Previewing. I did a small test and the problem appears not because of the Gausian blurr which doesn't seem to be affecting framerate at least from what I can tell by looking at it. When I unmute the Vegas Credit Roll though drops a lot. Again not sure how much, but I would say from 60fps to at least low 10s. Preview quality doesn't seem to affect it. As soon as I mute Vegas Credit Roll the framerate recovers.

Here is one of the files I am using.

I also tried a different video file which wouldn't normally be part of this project (different recording method too) and the problem appears there too when I use this text/credit roll.

EfGe wrote on 3/28/2022, 5:57 AM

I tried selecting one of the clips with the credit roll and have that prerender (Tools>Selectively Prerender Video). No effect. I then disabled the track which has the credits roll and where the non prerendered clips played at normal full speed, the prerendered video played at the lower speed. Which it doesn't make any sense to me.

I don't know. it's very annoying.

Only a suggestion ... does the Frame Size in Vegas Credit Roll exactly match the frame size of the Project Properties and the media on the timeline?

1080p 60fps both project and vegas credit roll.

the clip over which the credit roll play is the same only with 59.940fps. Having said that, other clip I tried (not normally for this project) which is exactly 60fps also has the same issue.

@EfGe I had a play with this, AVC 3840x2160, plain scrolling on black, i changed the background to transparent,

I tried it a few times, the first 2 times it never reached full playback, the third time it crashed Vegas & the 4th time i screen recorded it but to be honest after 7mins of it looping it never reached full playback so i'm not going to post that boring video., .

This is after the 7mins dropping to 3fps

The peaks on the graph are the short bit of video before the text starts

Dynamic Ram made it play correctly.

Dynamic RAM you mean the setting in options>preferences>video> Dynamic preview ram? I have set it to 200 which I think is the default.

One thing that I think I forgot to mention is the preset for the vegas credits roll I use is the "Timed, Wipe In/Out, on Black". With Alpha background color (white) set to 0.0%

@EfGe Sorry i should have made that clearer, i did Build Dynamic Ram Preview in the Tools menu.

@EfGe How many lines of text do you have on Timed, Wipe In/Out?

On the pics above i have 58 lines of text 😂

I tried it with Timed, Wipe In/Out but with just 20 lines & it reached full playback no prob, 🤷‍♂️

not even close. :)

Former user wrote on 3/28/2022, 2:34 PM

@EfGe OK, i was just curious 👍 I tried setting it as you have in the vid, it took a bit of time to get up to speed but it did eventually,

I duplicated that media & credit roll to see how that works,

it took at least 10 loops before it got to full playback,

I don't know if the maths work out but my pc spec no's are 4 times more than yours, so if i have to wait for 10x loop playbacks yours will be maybe not be 4 times but will be at least twice as many, for a simple text like this it shouldn't be like this 😒
