VP17 Build stability

@set

Thanks for the reply. My camera (Pana G9) shoots in 8bit MP4 AVC and 10bit MOV. I played some 4K 8bit 50P files and they played back fine. No adjustments to them. How will disabling So4 affect overall performance if the camera you are using produces AVC and rendering?

unfortunately I don't use Panasonic G9, so no experience with it.

Same video files as the GH5. But as long as I can edit, I am happy.

Will there be a "fix" for this in the future?

Your 8 bit files will work, but your 10 bit files will not if you have so4 disabled.

I too use GH5 as well as Panasonic S1's, and shoot 10 bit. So4 works for me just fine, so it's something to do with your hardware configuration that is triggering the issue with Vegas, it isn't universal. However, many previous so4 bugs have been fixed in the past since it was introduced in Vegas Pro 15, I'm sure they will continue to work on it with future updates as well.

@fr0sty thanks for the reply. The only difference in our hardware is basically the graphics card, mine being AMD RX480 8GB.

Noob question, when you say the 10bit files will not work, are you saying the 10bit files will not be imported as 10bit, or not display at all.

Anyway, I worked with BCC Corner Pin Studio and Mocha, along with editing and not one crash yet! I am certainly in a much happier mode now! I will slowly "re-enable" what I turned off and see exactly where it starts it's crashing.

They won't import at all, or if they do, it'll just be a green frame that displays. There once was a workaround to rewrap them in a .mxf wrapper with a script, but the decode performance was terrible compared to so4. I had to use it back when so4 wasn't working for me either.

@fr0sty thank you for your insight. I haven't shot 10bit yet so was wondering the downside of leaving So4 disabled.

I'll experiment when the time comes. Thanks again!

FWIW, I shoot with the GH5, shoot nothing but 10 bit ALL-I and Vegas seems to handle okay without So4 disabled.
