VP20 BSOD

hunter-goodwin wrote on 10/2/2022, 11:05 AM

recently i upgraded to VP20 and im not sure what is going on. any time i load up VP20 and insert a video it will load in fine BUT my preview screen is blacked out. i found a simple fix to that but even with that fix after a few minutes the program will BSOD my computer. it shows up and goes away almost instantly. i did manage to get an error code from it by recording a video and getting the code from a single frame. DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL with a dxgmms2.sys. ive rolled back drivers, uninstall/reinstalled driver, switched HDD/SSD multiple times, ive even done a fresh windows install and still the same problem. ive looked up the code and tried doing what is recommended and havent gotten anywhere with it. any ideas on this problem would be helpful.

Windows 11
5950X
3090
64GB mem
around 30TB of free space between HDD/SSD
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL with a dxgmms2.sys

@hunter-goodwin Try Geforce Experience for the latest Studio driver 517.40 https://www.nvidia.com/en-gb/geforce/geforce-experience/

Do you get a black screen with all types of media?

Is it HEVC media? Try the non-legacy decoder in preferences/ file io?

@hunter-goodwin type VIEW RELIABILITY HISTORY into windows search bar. look at the dates and times vegas crashed windows. Click on the blue view technical details to see what it says.

Mediainfo can tell you what the file is. It's probably AVC so that setting would have no effect. https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-to-post-mediainfo-and-vegas-pro-file-properties--104561/

Is VIEW RELIABILITY HISTORY new? It looks useful.

after going through all the dump info im back to square one. dxgmms2.sys failed which is a driver failure. not really sure what else to do with that since ive already rolled back drivers, uninstall/reinstalled drivers, and a fresh windows install

@RogerS it's a more basic limited version of event viewer, but on a forum, it's a simpler process to describe how to get to the logs, just run the app. More technical people would see no purpose to it

@hunter-goodwin When I had a bad driver install it showed as a hardware error, and then the technical details showed a file name that was obviously part of Nvidia drivers. I used DDU to remove drivers in safe mode, it worked where uninstall and reinstall(clean) of drivers did not.

My symptoms were different to yours, I would lose signal to all monitors (black screen), then after few seconds signal was restored, but performance was never perfect instill restarting windows. This was the graphics drivers crashing and restarting, not Windows BSOD'ing
