VP23 - render not seemingly detecting template

DWC wrote on 1/29/2026, 2:23 AM

Hi All,

Just starting to work with VP23 (long background with Corel VideoStudio) and I'm baffled as to why VP23 Render dialogue doesn't seem to detect my Project Properties Video Template selection. That template was created by selecting Match Media Video Settings and I named the template 'iPhone 16 Pro 4K 60 FPS). When I attempt to render, I'm unable to locate that template nor does Render adjust when I select 'Match project video settings' i.e. Render seems to stay with 'Internet HD 720P 29.97 FPS'

My aim is to render my edited iPhone 16 Pro videos (captured at 4K 60FPS)

Where am I going wrong?

Thanx for considering

Creating a Project Properties custom setting does not create a render template in the Render window. When going to the Render window, it's a case of either selecting one of the preset templates (the templates that match the project properties are preceded by an '=' to the left of the template name) or you can create, name and save a custom template by picking an appropriate preset template and customise it by clicking on the 'Customize...' button in the Render window.

@Dexcon - thanx for touching base n assisting me.

So in this current example, am I understanding correctly that VP23: a) doesn't have any render options that match iPhone 16 Pro video captured at 4K 60FPS?; and b) it is only offering audio rendering of my muted video edits?

In my earlier model iPhones, 4K video capture was always 59.94FPS but my iPhone 16 properties definitely reads 60FPS. Don't whether this matters.

When you set 'Match project video settings'; in the Render window, the render options displayed will be the templates that exactly match all the match options selected. As the resolutions of the video from both my GoPro and Samsung 23 Ultra are set to higher than 3840x2160 and neither of their resolutions exactly match any of VP23's preset render templates, no video render options appear when 'match resolutions' is checked. Both cameras are set to 25 fps so render options do display when the match resolution checkbox is unchecked.

This might also be the case with your iPhone video if either the resolution or framerate doesn't exactly match any of the preset render templates.

What you'll need to do is turn off matching, select the closest preset render template to the render settings that you want (2160p 59.94 templates are available under both AVC (H.264) and HEVC (H.265) render formats) and use the 'Customize...' button to change the framerate from 59.94 to 60.00 fps in the custom render settings window. Name the custom template as desired and save it so that you can use it again in the future.

However, please note that as I am PAL-land, I don't use NTSC frame rates (29.97, 59.94, 30, 60) so I am unsure if rendering 60 fps video to 59.94 fps makes any difference particularly when phone video is not recorded at a constant framerate (CFR) but at a variable framerate (VFR) so the real fps framerate at any point along the video's length can vary from a little to a lot.

thanx for labouring with me on this … so to remove all doubt, you’re also saying VP23 isn’t capable of automatically creating a render option which matches eg first event properties dropped onto timeline?

I don't know a video editor which creates a render option which matches first event properties. Vegas has already the feature that it can adept the project settings according the first event properties, which is quite unique. The only render option that automatically adepts project settings into render settings I know is (was) the Voukoder classic render option for the Vegas versions before VP23.

Vp23 has render templates for most common video formats, resolutions and framerates. For different resolutions and framerates, you can manually change an existing render template and save those settings for future use.

Thanks for your input … will changing a template’s frame rate from 59.94 to 60 cause misalignment between video and audio within an event or the project as a whole?

No, changing framerate doesn't change the duration/timing.

@DWC You're sure that Vegas interprets your Iphone recordings as 60 fps and not as 59.94 fps?

Dexcon wrote on 1/30/2026, 3:52 AM

@DWC  ... re "You're sure that Vegas interprets your Iphone recordings as 60 fps and not as 59.94 fps?"

A sure way to establish the iPhone's video framerate is to run a MediaInfo (a free app) report on one of the iPhone videos. Please see https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-to-post-mediainfo-and-vegas-pro-file-properties--104561/ for information about MediaInfo as well as a link to their website to download and install.

And a detailed report will also show the minimum and maximum VFR framerates, not just the 'default' framerate.

For example my Samsung S24 recordings are interpreted as 29.970fps by Vegas, by MediaInfo and Davinci Resolve as 30fps. On the other hand I don't see a difference when render those recordings in Vegas with 29.970fps or with 30fps, as long as render settings are equal project settings.

Reyfox wrote on 1/30/2026, 4:44 AM

@DWC, I also have CVS on my computer. I too would suggest you use MediaInfo to see actually what your footage is from your cellphone.

I guess I am "old school" when it comes to settings of the project and rendering. I double check to make sure everything is what it should be. And if not, change it myself. It is just as easy, and I know for sure what the rendering will be set to.

Mediainfo confirms 60fps with Min/Max frame rates as  54.545 / 60.000

I'm not savvy with how Min/Max frame rates might affect output. My first guess is that using a 59.94 template won't result in any noticeable rendered file? 'as long as render settings are equal project settings'

@DWC when you import your iPhone recording into Vegas, which framerate does Vegas want to set as the project framerate, 60fps or 59.94fps?

When 60fps, than you have to create manually a 60fps rendertemplate as described earlier.

When 59.94fps, than use the 59.94fps rendertemplate.

Also make sure that in project settings, the resampling mode is set to "none" and not to "optical flow".

DWC wrote on 1/31/2026, 1:59 AM

@3POINT I had earlier created a project template to match the iPhone vids at 4K 60FPS and selected ‘Start all new projects with these settings’ so, in order to invoke what you’ve asked, I changed the default project properties to ‘HD 1080…’ then dropped an iPhone video into timeline … the preview window reads ‘60.000p’. I hope I’ve understood u correctly and applied the test properly 🤷‍♂️

@DWC No matter when you set your project settings to whatever setting, when it differs from the setting from your first added footage into the timeline, you will get following message:

When you reply with Yes, Vegas sets the project resolution and framerate according your footage. Media resolution and framerate and project resolution and framerate are shown here:

as well as in the project settings:

EricLNZ wrote on 1/31/2026, 4:12 AM

@DWC Something else to be aware of. When rendering Vegas temporarily changes your project settings to match the render template settings.

DWC wrote on 1/31/2026, 5:15 AM

@3POINT that dialogue pop-up didn’t manifest when I ran my earlier 1080p test ie 4K video dragged onto timeline didn’t trigger that option … but that prompt (change project properties to match first video) is what I’m used to seeing in VS23 … VS23 then allows a render checkbox to match project properties and/ or first video … that’s what I was hoping VP23 would do … BUT I have seen the VP23 dialogue pop-up you’ve screen grabbed in a previous session (not sure why it didn’t manifest in my most recent attempt)

ultimately I presume you’re trying to establish whether VP23 changes project properties to match my iPhone video and, if it does, whether VP23 then identifies the project properties frame rate as 60 or 59.94p - yes/ no?

Sorry, what do you need help with at this point? There's scarcely any difference between 60.00 and 59.94p and the iPhone footage is variable framerate anyway (doesn't hit either consistently). I'd keep the project on what VP thinks the iPhone footage is and then customize a template for what you want to do with it- you want 1080p 59.94 output? Go for it and save a template to find easily next time. VEGAS does let you filter based on project settings (though may not have presets for weird formats like perfect 60fps video).

If VP 23 is no longer prompting you to change project settings to match first added media recheck it in preferences.
