VST plug-ins have gone missing

I have Vegas Pro17 and Soundforge pro 14. All was going well with using the VST plugins that came with SoundForge (plus some others) in vegas, then suddenly, Vegas can’t find most of them - only thte ones that came with Vegas. I have tried checking the locations, refreshing the list, restarting the program, starting a new file. If I open SoundForge, then they are all still available. I went to preferences and changed all the folders to look in so that they are the same as Sound Forge. Now it seems that all the VST plugins are listed there in preferences, and ticked. I click apply and save. Go to the time line, right click on audio effects: NOTHING - not event he vegas ones now. What can I do – it’s hopeless!

Are all VST plug-ins not available in VP or just some.. In any case, go to VP's "Options> Preferences> VST Effects" Are the pertinent VST folders designated in the default or alternate search folders? Many VST effects <.dll> files installed to the "Program Files> Steinberg folder by default (32 bit plugs can be in x86 Program Files> Steinberg folder) There may be addtional "VST" folders as well in both Program Files folders as well.

The weird thing is that they are all there in Sound Forge. So I then made sure that exactly the same folders are specified in the VP preferences as are in the Sound Forge preferences.... Bizarrely this got MORE of them to show, but still not ALL of them. For example, I have 5 plugins made by ERA - all show up in Sound Forge, but only 2 in VP. Until last week I got all of them in VP! So it's very weird.

I'm tempted to try reinstalling VP - though that will mean finding my details...😖

I am not sure if VP-17 supports the VST-3 plug-ins, if that is the ERA plugs format.

Thanks for your thoughts all. I've resolved the issue: I copied all the VSTs to a new folder and told vegas to look for that folder. However, the first time I did this there were vsts in another folder that got found first (alphabetically), so once vegas had found THOSE vsts it stopped looking in that location. At some point I will tidy up and put them all in one place under <<programs>> and no-where else! Then make sure any relevant programs, be they SoundForge, Audacity, Vegas etc look ONLY in that folder.

Just in case it helps I have ERA plugins, version 4 I believe, running in Vegas 15 and 17
