I received two ~10 min long mp4 files, I think they were exported with Adobe PP, but that is an educated guess.

Anyway, I added the two videos (vegas pro 19) to the project and then dragged and dropped them on the timeline. Even though they are both the same duration, one of them always appeared on the event as way different length than the other, like 100%.

I tried a few things, but it kept happening and some times the file wouldn't even load on the timeline when I would drag and drop it.

 

I was in a hurry so I decided to just give Studio Platinum 17 a go as I have it installed. Zero issues.

Tried it again on Pro 19, same problem even after deleting files, using different folders, etc.

 

So I added the files in the timeline on Studio Platinum 17, saved the project and then loaded the project in Pro 19. Pro 19 could loaded the project and the files without issues.

 

Any idea what is going on?

Unfortunately I can't send you info on these files as i technically do not own them.

 

But hypothetically, what could be the problem?

Yes it is weird. Post Media info on your two files. Instructions here should you not be familiar with MediaInfo https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-to-post-mediainfo-and-vegas-pro-file-properties--104561/

@EfGe, what I find exquisitely fascinating is that Platinum kinda understands the file enough to then handover to VP19. Is VP19 activating too much stuff to get in the way? Are your decoders within Plat working “better” than VP19?

I don't know the answer to any of these questions. I only activated my VP19 Pro yesterday (had the trial version).

@EfGe In both VMS17 and VP19 right click on the clips and look at the Properties "General" tab. At the bottom it will show the Plug-in being used to decode the file. Is it the same in VMS and VP? The sample below is an mp4 in VMS17 Plat. My mp4 comes from Handbrake so should be fairly standard.

Same one, so4compoundplug.dll, same version 1.0 8532 and just different locations.

Similar issue with much longer files (almost 3 hours the problematic file).

Again Studio 17 Platinum came to the rescue with loading the file just fine, where Pro would only make it appear half as long.

It has stopped being funny.
