What has been changed since VPro 18 in handling my 4K HEVC GOPro files

j-v wrote on 7/28/2022, 12:16 PM

I searched a lot to find a reason but I can't find one for my problem on only laptop from signature.
Untill VPro 17 and VMS Pl 17 no problem in loading, playing and rendering those files with MediaInfo as follow

Since VPro 18 and higher, loading files is very slow, playing not fluent and if more than 10 of such files in a project the program crashes.
Settings at File I/O and Video are all the same, legacy HEVC decoding is used and done through the QSV GPU.
After refreshing almost all on my laptop I loaded more than 3 hours of those sourcefiles in VMS Pl 17 and no problem occurred.
Loading the same VF project in VPro 19 build 643 crashes the program.
Look here ( I did send already more than 1 crash report).

Hi, thanks for the clip, i was curious about the crashing you mentioned, I can't give you the details of V17 vs V19, It takes a loop play or two for that file to get up to full 50 fps , i duplicated your file to 3.30 hrs with no crash, saved the project then opened the .veg no prob, this is one clip duplicated tho, so many different clips as in your project might be different 🤷‍♂️

Mine looks the same as @john_dennis V19

I am having the same trouble with 4k 30fps h.264 clips in Vegas 19. They worked perfectly in June, but now in July after some updates (not sure which one) vegas crashes on my machine just like your screen capture. Mine also takes out the desktop (screen goes blank), error dialog pops up but is unresponsive, and I have to cntrl+alt+del end process on vegas. Then windows recovers, sometimes at a lower resolution.

I've been speaking with tech support and no solutions as of yet. Funny thing is, it worked without issue up until a couple months ago (End of June 2022)

@weinerschizel
I'm not seeing that problem with AVC files (So4compoundplugin.dll used), only with 4K HEVC( mxhevcplug.dll used)

I tested your HVEC file on my Vegas 19 Build 643. It didn't crash. However, my system tends to flake out when I get a few HVEC files on my timeline, not just one... So I added some more to the timeline and it eventually crashed.

I noticed my last successful render was June 16th 2022. Then I installed the Vegas 19 Build 643 on June 22, 2022. I've not been able to render a project with HVEC since. I'm rolling back to previous Vegas 19 build right now to see what happens.

@weinerschizel I've seen that twice with b643, but not recently. Vegas some how crashes the video driver. On my computer both monitors go black, but not simultaneously, one followed by the other. Then comes back to life by themselves. I undervolt my GPU, and never had a problem, but after first Vegas related video driver crash, I set GPU back to default, the 2nd incident occurred with default GPU settings.

No other software does this.

@Former user, do you have a Radeon GPU? I suspected issue is a compatibility problem with at least Radeon drivers but cannot say for sure. I updated my drivers and issue persisted. Currently running AMD Driver Version 31.0.12015.1008 for my Radeon RX 480.

@weinerschizel I have nvidia 3000 series GPU. Your problem could be different you mentioned a white screen in another thread. My monitors lost video signal resulting in black screen

j-v wrote on 8/1/2022, 2:26 PM

I read from @weinerschizel that his rolling back to VPro 19 build 636 was his solution. I did the same and now my problem on laptop with those files is gone.

Awesome, I took out a support ticket for this issue. Hopefully they'll do another revision to the build before they move to the next version of Vegas.

I have a thread which I've passed onto Vegas. It has a bunch of feature requests in it. I'm wanting them to resolve some of the pesky issues with Vegas and even incorporate some stuff that would improve workflow before I purchase a new version. Feel free to chip in on the thread if you have some suggestions.
