What I WOULD pay for in Vegas

"What about an "Image Stabiliser"? Really!"

That would be nice. I had to pay extra for mine. I think Apple has one included don't they? What I would LOVE to see though is something that can retrieve the metadata info to be used on-screen.

I would also love to see a DRASTIC upgrade in the HDV capture utility. HDVsplit (a free utility) can do things that the vegas capture utility can't........... like read and label your clips with the metadata time/date for starters.

I've downloaded "Deshaker" and it's so brilliant that I've thrown my tripod away :)

Hmmm....only for 64-bit Vegas, huh? I really don't want to use Vista yet...if ever. My DAW/NLE workstation is so stable as-is.

But OpenEXR support would be HUGE.

"But OpenEXR support would be HUGE."

Well sort of except no camera records to it.

DNG would be much more interesting as would DPX.

Bob.

But Blender3D and other animation packages render to it. We are animating a short film in Blender and planning to edit it in Vegas. To be able to render OpenEXR image sequences and pull them directly into Vegas for the various stages of animatics & editing would be a dream workflow.

Remember that cameras are not the only source for video/images.

EDIT: Incidentally, Blender will also export DPX and Cineon. But for high-end CGI, compositing, etc. OpenEXR is becoming the preferred file format - or so I'm told. It seems to be extremely capable and handles the complexities of HDR, etc. very well.

I'd like to be able to render and work on the project at the same time without having to re-open another version.

I'd like to be able to listen to effects music the way acid does before importing

I'd like auto white balance.

I'd like a plugin for over and under exposing

I'd like a better blur and an edge blur.

I'd like the ability for better greenscreen either improve this one or a third party.

BWF (basic & poly) export.
A storyboard engine/applictaion/option (call it your way).
Flash media save.

Batch Rendering would be nice - set up 4 or 5 projects and run them sequentially overnight.

In the meantime - fix the current issues rendering to 1920 x 1080 so it can be done consistentyly - AVCHD or AVC would be nice - its a bit too problematic right now depending on what a person is using for the originals and complexity / length of the project.

64 bit DVDA would be great too - it's painfully slow to create an image that will fill most of a 25gb disc using AVC.

Better H264 encoder (e.g. with very latest MainConcept encoder).

Full-featured HDV capture program.

Sorry if those sounds like wishlist requests but I would pay extra for them.

If you want batch rendering, get Veggie Toolkit. It works well and is incredibly flexible. I know the programmer personally (he's a member of the RTP Vegas Users Group) - great person, great product.

That is really weird. I will contact Randall via email. Something quirky must be going on with his website. I just visited it on Saturday (Jan 3rd) and everything was fine. Veggie Toolkit is definitely a legit product - even associated with Ed Troxel of "Excalibur" fame. [See the JetDV forums for details.] It runs on both my edit systems and I've had personal face-to-face support from the developer.

When I hear back from Randall I'll let you know what's up.

The malicious software issue appears to be a Google problem. It does not occur if you search via MSN or Yahoo or enter my URL directly into your web browser. I have reported the issue to Google security, but so far have heard nothing from them (as expected actually).

I'm not sure what else to do so if anyone has any ideas let me know.

Edit: The other interesting thing about this report is that IP address. It isn't the IP address of my site. www.peachrock.com is 98.131.12.252. So, not sure what is going on.

most likely he clicked on the warez link, 2nd one down. Avoiding paying? ;)

I wouldn't pay extra for anything in vegas. Odds are if it doesn't have it I'll get it some place else. If you're willing to pay Sony extra, why not use a separate app? some things would be nice integrated, but most not. I'd rather see some things fleshed out (onion skinning/ghosting on track motion/pan/crop, IPO curves for EVERYTHING, frame-syncing in ProType, etc). Those are what I'd pay for in the next update.

EDIT: my yahoo "veggie toolkit" search:
http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=Veggie+Toolkit&ei=UTF-8&fr=moz2

If I click the 1st link (http%3a//www.peachrock.com/software/VeggieToolkit3/veggie-toolkit.html) it forwards me to http://liveantivirusprotectionscan.com/2009/1/freescan.php?nu=880865

must be a bug somewhere on my drive... :(

I'd like auto white balance.

Media Composer also has auto black balance. Not a bad idea.

Infinite5ths wrote on 1/8/2009, 8:36 PM
I'm getting the same results with a Yahoo! search for "veggie toolkit". The site is reported as a "potentially harmful website". It's almost as if the Peachrock site got hijacked or something.

Anyway, Randall makes a great product. Hopefully this web anomaly will be fixed soon.

I just got word from Randall via email that the hosting service he uses for the Peachrock website has ongoing issues with some kind of infection - hacking or malware or something, I'm not quite sure what. He found out tonight and I expect he'll take corrective action right away.
