What is V4 doing...?

they arent on the record side, those same files will play fine in vegas 3. If vegas 3 renders them or open copies in sound forges em, theyre fine, rendering or open copying in vegas 4 will show visible glitches..many are of the " static blast " variety and also I get static blasts from hitting solo and stuff...I was calling them something else but thinking of them asd " blasts of static" so whenm he said static blasts, I thought we were on to something

no i'm not using an RME - it's an echo layla 24. i've been using the same setup around vegas audio 2 for over 2 years with no problems whatsoever. i haven't tried recording into V4 yet - all my static blasts and glitches have been on the playback side of things. i've also tried changing to the standard wave driver and increasing the audio buffers to 8 or 9 - and the same things happen.

I'm disappointed to hear this. I also am using a Layla 24 and was planning on upgrading to V4 in a couple of weeks. I've used Laylas (20 bit & 24s) with Vegas 1 thru 3 with no problems whatsoever (related to the Echo cards). Anyone else using V4 and Layla 24? Success - or problems to report? I prefer to leave the "beta testing" to those who enjoy it. However, trouble shooting this software bleeds all the energy and creative juices out of the process for me. I just want to make music. ;-)

Thanks,

I'm getting the "static blasts" when I click out of solo as well, with an Echo Mona. If I do it a few times the sounds quit, almost as if there were static discharging. Now that it's been two Echos and an RME I suppose it isn't simply hardware/driver specific and bears looking into.

Oh, and once in a while it'll begin rapidly repeating (like a "skipping" CD) and stay stuck. This happens with rapid scrolling/window switching.

Im getting this a LOT too! Same as a vegas 3 project that WONT do it, opening it in four will cause this. Sometimes this happens during record

I have likley ruled out my Delta 66 as a source of my stuttering problems. Just for kicks, I ran V4 through a Creative Extigy (External USB) soundcard, and have the exact same issues. Granted, a Creative card shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence as Vegas, but for simple two channel playback, and testing purposes, it needed to be tried. When I say the stuttering issues are exactly the same between the two cards, I mean that the rate at which V4 stutters is of the same timing with the Delta and Extigy. Buffer tweaks only make the stuttering change timing. Lower buffers will cause the stuttering to be further apart, and higher buffers cause the stuttering to be more closely spaced. Again, this project runs fine in VV3 with both cards. If I remove all or several plugins (in V4), then things run smoothly, but even with all the plugins running in either VV3 or V4, CPU usage is well below any type of limits.

BTW, the Delta driver version is 5.10.00.0027

Alright, it is usually my problem, these kind of things, as I seem to be fraught with them...I dont know if I am pushing vegas harder than Im sposed to or what, but it seems this last round that has been having me PULL MY HAIR OUT for the last month might now be on me at all

It seems a few of us are having the "static blast " problem

It seems a few are also having the stuttering problem

I am also having problems where sometimes on rendering, a static blast is put into the actual file, where it hadnt been on playback

Also this same sort of thing happens to the file during " open copy in sound forge"

If anyone besides me is having these problems, PLEASE let tech support know vegas4beta@SonicFoundry.com
so that it doesnt appear to be just one guy having this trouble, please also state your soundcard so we know its not just an RME issue for instance

please please please

Have you tried to isolate the problem to particular plug-ins? It sounds like maybe certain plug-ins in V4 are causing you trouble.
PipelineAudio wrote on 2/11/2003, 4:02 PM
no plugins

I can absolutely repro the issue with gapping occurring every few seconds, but ONLY when I add the Acoustic Mirror plugin as an assignable effect and insert its envelope on a track. As soon as I do that, the audio mutes every few seconds in a very predictable and rythmic way.

I've got this happening too. Seems to be a vegas + acc mirr conflict, I don't even need to have the envelope.

My troubles happen with or without mirror

Just turned asio off and everything works again, spoke too soon, as I was writing this heard one of your static blasts pipeline. Just starting to experiment as I have a day or two client free. Won't be using vv4 with clients until I make sure it's performing up to spec. Know better than to risk it. If I can't figure out my issues, I'll jump on your bandwagon and start sending error reports as well. Figured if I got lucky some of you truly early adapters would have things figured out before I even bumped into them. Oh well, procrastination can only take you so far in life.

I just did that with A4 as well; went back to MME; it's just easier for me to do it that way, more seamless...don't want to have to shut down an app and turn on another one...v4 is looming on the horizon for me, but I think I may wait until after I bump up to XP, something I thot I'd never ever do again after my last fiasco with it Jan 02...I'll do a clean install, go with edirol for my midi serial drivers for my alesis, maybe bump up to 1G for DDRam, then we'll see about V4...keep checkin for updates on my sf6, cda5, A4, bacon5 and hold onto my 1.7+ AMD for awhile...figure they'll have a V4a by the end of the year...
troven wrote on 2/12/2003, 9:46 PM
switching to MME (at any buffer setting) doesn't do any good. static blasts and glitches are still prevalent in all the trouble free VA2 projects i transferred over. Echo Audio's VxD drivers for the layla 24 have been rock solid for years.
PipelineAudio wrote on 2/12/2003, 9:53 PM
thank you again :)

glad to see that MME is as bad as ASIO, as thats what I have found as well. I have gone looney, as people have been convincing that it was just me...and really it isnt, not happy to see you having problems, but happy to see that it is not just a problem on my end

I WAS HAVING ALL OF THE SAME PROBLEMS AS YOU ALL ARE UNTIL I DOWNLOADED A BETA DRIVER AND IT SOLVED THE PLAYBACK PROBLEMS. BUT NOW WHEN I ARM MORE THAN 6 TRACKS OR SO TO RECORD.......IT CRASHES MY WHOLE SYSTEM TO THE POINT THAT I HAVE TO UNPLUG IT TO GET IT GOING. WHY IS IT THAT THE WINDOWS CLASSIC WAVE DRIVER IN XP WILL RUN IT JUST FINE(EXCEPT FOR THE 1 OR 2 SEC. DELAY WHEN INPUT MONITORING)SINCE THAT WOULD BASICALLY BE RUNNING 4.0 LIKE 3.0..........I'M CONFUSED , IS ANYONE ELSE HAVING PROBLEMS LIKE THAT?? I RUN 3.O JUST FINE. WHY IS IT SO HARD TO USE THE ASIO IN VEGAS???
P.S. IT'S NOT MY MACHINE!!! (pentuim 4 1.6 gig 512mb )

OK, I'm running a Delta 1010 on Windows XP, no problems.

Is everyone having problems here running Win98SE?

Also my machine is an Athlon, is everyone having problems with Pentium 4, or maybe are they all on the same motherboard chipset?

Wow - glad I spoke up. Looks like SoFo needs to look into this - NOW.....

When you added AcMirror, what setting was it on? I don't have problems until I try to set it to 4 or 5. No envelope needed here either....

I am running Win98SE.

I'm running a dual athlon XP on a Tyan Tiger MP MOBO. I have a gig of ram installed, the Delta 1010 with the Acid ASIO fix drivers 5.10.00.00.29x12.

I have yet to experience these static bursts in renders yet, though I have gotten them ONCE when I was slipping audio under the playback cursor.
VU-1 wrote on 2/14/2003, 1:39 PM
I used V4 beta - bld 74 to edit last week's radio dialogue.

I didn't notice any of these "static bursts" - either during playback or after rendering. Just a thought: you guys who are hearing these in the rendered file, are you rendering down to a different format (ie: 96/24 ---> 44/16 or other combination)? I kept my file the same (44/24 ---> 44/24) - both .wav files.

V4 actually appeared to run a little bit faster than VV3 while editing.

BUT - I still have the stuttering issue. Since I edit & master a 1 1/2 hr program for radio broadcast, its faster for me to just play the file & record to DAT rather than to render it down first and then play it. The program sounds better with AcMirror set to 4 instead of 3 (V4 won't play 4 w/o stuttering). So, since V4 stutters on playback, I will have to keep using VV3 until SoFo can find the bug & fix it.

My beta time runs out in a week. After that, I will load up the new V4 demo vs. and give it a shot...

my rendered static blasts happen when the file is rendered to the exact same format as the project files. One I suspected did have one 44k sample in a 48 k file, but even after that was deleted the glitch was still there..."open copy in sound forge" and "render to new track" cause more than just static blast glitches, sometimes they gap, or skip as well
