What would make a file dragged into Vegas appear only to be a few seco

I figured I'd try asking this question a bit more simply.

I have a file that I used in previous project successfully, that when i drag and drop it into the editing area of a new project in Vegas, the 40 minute + video appears to be only a few seconds. I've tried removing any sfk files in case they had some information, but no change. I've even copped it to my PC from the source again and it still behaves the same.

So what could cause a file to appear as only a few seconds when if I open it in VLC or something it clearly is the whole in tact 40 minute video?

At this point if I need to reset Vegas to default or something to clear any potential information it's retaining on this video I'm happy to do that, I'm just at such a loss...

Please do this:

Have you run any stream fix utilities to repair any lost packets possibly in the recording?

I assume this is part of your other post. In theory, Vegas does nothing to the original file. Can you show a screen capture of the video on the timeline including the video pool screen.

I don't have any stream fix utilities, just a hobbiest, so if you have a recommendation of something free, let me know...

I did try to use my copy of 'AnyMP4' to convert it to avi, and THAT file plays just fine too, but when I drag and drop into vegas I get an hour of video but no audio.

VideoReDo TV Suite has a function called Quick Stream Fix that cleans up dropped frames from over-the-air transport streams. Missing data can cause problems with non linear editors like Vegas Pro. There is a trial that you can use to see if the program would be a benefit to you.

Your original file is stored on your desktop in a TEMP file? Not a normal place to keep source video.

If you want free options, use you favorite search engine and search for...

Correct. It behaves the same wherever it is.
