When I add an audio track the video gets corrupted

Former user wrote on 3/17/2022, 7:25 PM

Has anybody seen this? I have a 15 minutes video that I want to add audio to. I played it through and made an audio narrative in another app and then imported the track to an audio track in Vegas. When I rendered it out, the first 10 seconds of the video are fine and then the video pixelates and freezer. I tried to do the narration in Vegas but when I selected the empty audio track I had created/inserted the video doesn't play in the preview window. Very strange.

EDIT: I tried it again and THIS time I was able to edit inside of Vegas. I am rendering now so we'll see if this works better than importing an mp3 audio file. If it does then I guess I did something wrong, or I just don't know how to add an audio file. Hopefully this real time narration works better than what I did last time.

2nd Edit: Nope. Still freezes after just a few frames. I have NO idea what is going on. The video is fine on its own. As soon as I add any audio it freezes.

LAST EDIT: I have no idea why or what I did different, but I tried it again this morning and it worked fine. Very strange. I think perhaps I was choosing the wrong encoding option.

To know more, we need at least the properties of your audio file - while you're at it, you should also provide the properties of the video file.

The properties of your hardware system and your software you could - like many other users - document in your user profile under "Signature", so they are also present in case of further questions.  (see my signature as an example)

Here you go. I don't really know why my hardware system is relevant, I mean, Windows 10 is Windows 10 and software just can't work on every computer but mine, but here it is. The video was shot with the camera in my drone. All I want to do is overdub an audio narration over the video. Am I perhaps using the wrong rendering option? I selected first 1080 at 25 fps, and when that failed I dropped it to 720 at 25 fps. Both results were the same. It went about 5 seconds and then the video pixelated and froze while the audio continued.

Perhaps noteworthy is that this is the first time I am trying to do this specific operation. I have created videos in the past with my USB camera, inserted video clips into that video and never have I had this kind of corruption. I just got the drone and want to catalog my learning curve. That being said there are a gajillion videos of drone footage on the internet with audio narration overdubbed so either I don't know what I'm doing with Vegas or Vegas doesn't like me. I tend to rule out the latter.

Thanks in advance for your help. I have a road trip coming and I would like to be able to post drone shots.

This is now resolved. I have to see how to mark it as so.

It would be interesting to see how you resolved this - we are a user - to user forum here and others might benefit.

You don't have the latest version of Vegas Pro 17 installed - which is build 455 - you should update first to the free update - there are always bug fixes.
Something is strange: You write that you have build 353, in the media files it says build 421 ??????

The hardware is interesting because some users here come with problems, and have PC's that don't meet the minimum requirements.

Honestly I think I just changed the encoding option. Whatever happened it has worked twice in a row now.
