Where are custom project settings saved?

3d87c4 wrote on 1/24/2023, 8:00 PM

I should probably know this by now, but...

I finally installed V20 and tried to create a new project using project settings I saved, and have been using for a while, in V19 but they didn't show up in the V20 menu.

I worked around this by loading one of my previous projects but wonder where are such things saved?

Scripts:

C:\Program Files\VEGAS\VEGAS Pro "Version number of your vegas, ex: 18.0, 19.0, 20.0, etc."\Script Menu

Scripts can be in a variety of places. Those will get the default scripts. As it's not advised to place any personal files in the "Program Files" folder, any scripts I write, I put in:

[My Documents]\Vegas Script Menu

and any custom commands I write, I put in:

[My Documents]\Vegas Application Extensions

Other viable paths for scripts:

@m3lquixd, It's generally not advised to touch the "Program Files" folder of other applications. Plus, I find it easier/cleaner to find "My Documents" and then just look for the "Vegas Script Menu" folder.

@jetdv But how do i put the custom scripts from the documents folder to appear in the vegas menu?

@m3lquixd Any script placed in "My Documents"\Vegas Script Menu will appear in the "Script Menu" list in VEGAS automatically. That's one of the many places it looks to place script in that list. Give it a try! Go to My Documents and create a new "Vegas Script Menu" folder there. Now take all of the "custom" scripts you added to the VEGAS folder and move them to this new folder. Open VEGAS and you'll still see them in the exact same place. But you haven't had to modify the VEGAS Program Files folder to do it.

@m3lquixd, also by putting it in the My Documents location, it will appear in ALL versions of VEGAS you have installed instead of having to go to every version's "Program Files" and having multiple copies of the same script. Then if you decided to modify it, you'd have to remember to put it in multiple locations instead of the ONE "My documents" location.

As per the instructions given above by m3lqixd, Vegas Pro 20 registry entries are under the 'VEGAS Creative Software' folder - HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VEGAS Creative Software\VEGAS Pro\20.0\Metrics\VideoProProfiles - not under the 'Sony Creative Software' folder where, from the image that has been uploaded, you are looking.

@m3lquixd No, I have an ongoing timelapse project and edited the latest 4-day image capture using V20...just to give it a try. The custom project setting I'd been using in V19 wasn't available in V20. I worked around it by loading my last V19 project but this got me wondering where these were stored.

I've been using Vegas since V12 and have never quite understood why some things are passed along and some aren't or where they are stored. Things like the mysterious missing image sequence rendering options that I was able to resolve by loading a V17 (or was it V18) project add to the mystery.

That said, I'm sure the video you propose would be useful & this thread might be a good place to put it if you're so inclined.

Thanks again.

To apply the templates within Vegas, you have to apply the registry, double-clicking on it and confirming the entry.
It's even easier than moving to a folder.

About me:
Hi! Melqui Calheiros Here. I've been using Vegas as my only video editor for over 10 years. I edit professionally for various influencers, public bodies and small businesses. My goal is to squeeze Vegas to the fullest! And end the prejudice that software has here in Brazil.

Alas, I'm pretty sleep deprived today so am unable to follow the video well enough to transfer my V19 templates to V20. I have another long day tomorrow so won't be able to study it for a couple of days. 😬
