Which hardware...CPU Intel vs AMD / Graphics card AMD vs Nvidia

Building a new editing system for Vegas Post v20

Video production would be 1080p with a little 4k thrown in...

In the past I have used Intel / NVidia components but with the new CPU's and GPU's coming out with attractive pricing... I am leaning towards AMD CPU / GPU for the build...

My question is which CPU / GPU combo in your opinion has the least issues (drivers, raytracing etc..) when using Vegas Post?

(I understand there are many other variables like motherboard, ram, storage, PS, cooling... mainly interested in the CPU/GPU discussion)

Thanks in advance for your comments... jt

Hi @Jim-Thomas! First off, welcome to the VEGAS forums.

About your question, regarding AMD CPUs and GPUs, if you take a look in my sig below, you will see that I have an AMD CPU and GPU. I have found the combination alright for VEGAS Pro myself, but I know that some people seem to prefer Intel/NVIDIA because, from what I have read and seen, VEGAS Pro seems to really work well with the iGPU (Intel UHD 770 integrated GPU in the 12th and 13th generation of intel CPUs, for example).

I haven’t tested this myself, personally, (I’m not sure if you’ve seen that with your own Intel CPU, if you currently have one of the non K or K models, like i5 12600 and i5 12600K or earlier), but that seems to be people’s experiences.

My vote is for Intel with iGPU for QSV decoding and encoding and NVIDIA GPU for less buggy drivers than AMD.

My computer specs are in my sig below. My choice for AMD has been longevity of the platform and ease of upgrading to a faster CPU if I want to.

There is talk about AMD drivers possibly being more buggy than Nvidia. I do not have personal experience with Nvidia, but am using an older driver version than the current WHQL released 5/10/2022. There have been optional drivers released for my card, and they all worked with the files I edit (422 10bit UHD 4K Panasonic) and have had no issues. The reason for remaining with the older driver is because a no longer supported by FXHome, Ignite Pro 5, seems to have problems with later drivers, although I haven't tried the latest one yet.

For "me", I would go AM5 if upgrading for longevity.

Oh, don't use Post, but Hitfilm Pro 2021.3.
