Which is the fastest Codec for rendering Pre Renders?!

Good Day wonderful people, so long story short I like watching the entire project before I do the final 4K lengthy render, but I can not hit Shift + B because I have too little RAM, and the videos that I make have many effects and they are on 4K so even if I were to do that it would only pre render about 30 seconds or less out of like 15 minutes, My question is from your experience which rendering template has rendered the fastest for you?

Your Help Is Greatly Appreciated Have A Great Day :D

Fastest, best quality is MPEG-2 / XDCAM

You can also try the hardware encoders in Magix AVC template, depending on whether you have Intel, Nvidia, or AMD.

I frequently render FHD AVC/AAC rough cuts using a customized Voukoder template (GOP equal to the equivalent of one second). I move the files to my media server to stream to get a feeling for where I might do final cuts. Any compressed delivery format like AVC/AAC won't be in the race for fastest but:

  • the output will be similar to your final delivery format
  • hardware encoders (NVENC, VCE, QSV) can speed up the process at the risk of not being the absolute best encode

I rarely watch that pot. I do something else while it comes up to a boil.

Try Shift+M instead, it will prerender your timeline selection (without time limitation) according project settings with the proposed rendering template in the project settings: If needed, you can also choose your own pre-render template here. For a faster prerender you can also change temporarily the project resolution to FHD instead of UHD(4k).
