White text needs to be 235 for Youtube, black needs to be 16. Same for your video levels!
Only exceptions are avi and wmv, and I would never upload those to youtube.

"Same for your video levels!"

How do I check and fix my video levels? Thanks

"How do I check and fix my video levels?"

, I described one of the ways you can do this. The Sony Color Curves filter is very flexible. Since my camera records full range 0-255, I have to do this all the time. Not just for Titles and Text, which also are added to the timeline in the range 0-255.

There are lots of other ways to do this, Brightness and Contrast, Computer to Studio RGB filter, but this is the one that I use most often.

Watch at 1920x1080.

Remember, when doing this with Curves, that the primaries are additive, so clipping can occur at the upper end that isn't apparent in the color channels. Best to play it conservative at the upper end,

Quick and dirty method is to put a Studio RGB filter on the output once you've got it looking the way you want in Vegas preview.

I almost never get it the way I want it in the Vegas preview. :-)

I have always thought that it was crazy that Vegas text defaulted to a 255 level white. No it's not a big deal to change it, but why did we have to?

It just the legacy RGB pipeline.
