for RLE need to activate depreciated QT plugin and turn on alpha channel in media properties

jetdv wrote on 10/16/2024, 7:53 AM

The ProRes one opened for me. This is probably your best option.

The other two would probably require QuickTime to be installed and turned on on the Options - Preferences - Deprecated Features tab. I don't have QT installed to test that.

What is MediaInfo for the original file? https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-to-post-mediainfo-and-vegas-pro-file-properties--104561/

Are they willing to use MagicYUV to share files with you? It works great in VEGAS.

Steve_Rhoden wrote on 10/16/2024, 8:53 AM

@iEmby They open & work perfectly fine for me..... Yes, i have Quicktime installed and activated in the Deprecated tab.

If i were the only editor using Vegas Pro, while all the others are using Premier Pro.....it would be an honor for me, and i would relish in it. Especially due to the fact that i would have finished renders sent out faster than everybody else.

john_dennis wrote on 10/16/2024, 9:04 AM

If your source files from Premier have an alpha channel you will need to convert to Apple Pro Res 4444 if you don't chose to install Apple Quicktime.

You'll take a 3X hit to file size.

Gid wrote on 10/16/2024, 9:10 AM

@iEmby Hi, all open & work no problem, I also have Quicktime installed and activated in the Deprecated tab.

But the Apple ProRes won't give me an alpha channel & is distorted because it loads @ 1.0926 (PAL DV), changing it to 1.0000 corrects the aspect but still no alpha.

@iEmby They opened and worked perfectly fine for me as well. All 3 MOV files. Yes, I also have Quicktime installed and activated in the Deprecated tab and also under Internal option, I set to FALSE the option "Show warning for media which is not suited for editing".

But the Apple ProRes won't give me an alpha channel & is distorted because it loads @ 1.0926 (PAL DV), changing it to 1.0000 corrects the aspect but still no alpha.

As @Gid pointed out, I also did that too.

Probably the best approach is to convert everything to Apple Pro Res 4444 in Shutter Encoder and avoid the confusion of Quicktime.

3POINT wrote on 10/16/2024, 11:58 AM

After enabling Quicktime plugin in deprecated features and setting event properties to alpha channel as follows

I could import the original mov file without issues. No need for conversions with shutter encoder. When time is money, this is probably the fastest and easiest way.

BTW conversion with SE like @john_dennis showed, didn't gave me an alpha channel.

It's a bit messed up this thread, Adobe Render.mov & Animation QT.mov both show an alpha channel without problems, Apple ProRes.mov doesn't show the alpha.

Adobe Render.mov is the one @3POINT shows in his pic, @john_dennis shows his converted Adobe Render (ORG)_Apple_ProRes_4444.mov), @iEmby shows Apple ProRes.mov in his video but shows Adobe Render.mov in the MediaInfo. 🤷‍♂️🤯

@john_dennis My fault, I missed a 4 when converting with SE to ProRes. So I converted to Pro Res 444 instead of Pro Res 4444...mea culpa..

@Gid I showed the CIRCLE_Adobe Render (ORG).mov file, which I understood is the Original File.

Gid wrote on 10/16/2024, 3:14 PM

@3POINT Hi, yep I understand, it's just everyone seems to be discussing different files, @iEmby stated Original (They given me to use) but it isn't exactly clear which file he's struggling with in the initial post because he's inc his converted versions, 👍

Original (They given me to use),

QT animation (converted in SE)

Apple ProRes (converted in SE)

It seems that 'Adobe Render.mov' (Original (They given me to use)) works for everyone who's enabled QT except the OP who is showing 'Apple ProRes (converted in SE)' in his video, I think it's just him getting mixed up with this bit. Using the Original Adobe Render.mov & enabling QT would've been the simple fix.

There are two workable options on the table.

  1. Load Quicktime and work with the file from Premier, CIRCLE_Adobe Render (ORG).MOV. EOJ *
  2. Don't load Quicktime and use Shutter Encoder to convert the file from Premier, CIRCLE_Adobe Render (ORG).MOV to Apple Pro Res 4444 (that's four 4s). EOJ **

* I resist loading Quicktime until someone holds a gun to my head.

** Only Apple Pro Res 4444 and 4444 XQ support alpha channel (transparency).

jetdv wrote on 10/17/2024, 8:11 AM

@iEmby then the ones that "work" are a different file format. What is the MediaInfo on the ones that do work? And why can't everyone use that format instead (unless those don't have or require transparency?)

You have a workable solution for this one you said didn't work. Install QuickTime. Then in VEGAS go to Options - Preferences - Deprecated Features and turn on "QuickTime" there. That's all that's needed to make the "original" file work (but does come with some disadvantages.) If you have time, converting to Apple Pro Res 4444 would be the better option.

On a modest machine such as my old i5 Intel, ProRes 444 just gums up the works in Vegas.

I edit smooth as silk with my many hours of ProRes 422 conversions, and it looks just as good, as even the smaller ProRes container is still overkill for our 4:2:0 source.
