Will you accidentally roll the wheel when pressing mouse wheel?

I always think it is a strange decision to assign the task of panning preview to the middle mouse button.

Panning the preview window has become a very common operation for users when making masks or motion tracking. Whenever I press the middle mouse button, I will have a certain probability to scroll the mouse wheel, which will cause unnecessary trouble.

Will this kind of trouble happen too when you use it?

----------------

In After Effects and VEGAS Effects, users pan the preview window by holding down Space. Maybe in Vegas, Vegas Team can change it to hold down Ctrl or Alt to pan.

It will never happen to me since I don't use a mouse with a middle mouse button. I do own one.

There are some models of Logitech mouse, maybe others, that are famous for moving the wheel when that button is pressed. It's better to have a mouse that doesn't do that.

With my mouse, can can have the scroll wheel with no friction (free wheeling) and stepped. I've always used stepped, and for me with my Logitech G502 Hero, it isn't an issue. But I did try it with the clicking stepping disabled. For sure, I would not want to scroll around the preview window. I would think that if I held the left mouse button down, I would move the window around.

@lan-mLMC Yeah, scrolling the wheel slightly while panning will at times occur.... But i have easily solved that issue from the get go for my personal workflow, by simply assigning the right mouse button for handling panning within Vegas. So much more fluent and easier.....There is a couple of mouse customization software out there to do this task, the one i use is called X-Mouse

But this seems to turn the right-click behavior in Vegas into the middle mouse button. I doubt that this will bring trouble to other normal editing operations.

I hope Vegas Team will add an icon to the toolbar to temporarily switch the left mouse button to panning preview.

No it won't !.... Like i said, you can customize everything to the "T" to fit your personal workflow when you are working in Vegas.

I did. And i'm in heaven with my Vegas preview window pan and Zoom..... For years, i was drooling for Vegas preview window to function just like After Effects Preview.....And now, its even far better.

Hi, is its principle: changing holding down the right button in Vegas into holding down the wheel button ?

Won't this upset some operations? For example, select multiple media in project media, hold down the right key and drag them to the timeline.

@Steve_Rhoden Thanks a lot! I used X-Mouse to replace the middle mouse button with Ctrl+left mouse button, and it only takes effect when the mouse is on the Vegas preview screen.

Compared with the unexpected rolling trouble caused by pressing the wheel, this is definitely a heart saving pill!

Of course, this is just a workaround after all. Hopefully officials can improve it.

See!....Glad you found your way to get it working...... Yeah, it is a work-around, but one that i am very happy with.
