Win 10, 11 and VP22 across machines

Hi all,

I have a dilemma, like a lot of people, I guess. I have a powerful Win 10 laptop in for repair quote, which can't 'officially' be updated to Win 11 (i7-7700 desktop processor). So wondering whether it's viable to keep it going.

What's the deal with Vegas Pro projects (I'm on VP22)? Is there likely to be a scenario where a project that's created on a Win 11 machine can't be opened on a Win 10 machine.

Is VP23 actually allowed to install and run on Win 10 or is it completely unsupported?

Then of course there is the decision to unofficially upgrade to Win 11 via Rufus etc.

Many thanks!
M

There's nothing stopping you from using VEGAS on a Windows 10 machine indefinitely. There's no project incompatibility to speak of between OS versions or builds of the same OS. If the computer works for you still keep going with it I'd say.

If you're unsure you can always try the trial of 23.

I'm fairly sure that a Vegas staff member addressed this in another post a while ago on the forum by noting that W10 is no longer officially supported in Vegas Pro 23 purely because Microsoft is ceasing global support for W10 in, I think, 2 days' time. Because of this, future advances in Vegas Pro will solely be based on W11 technology. This of course is not to say that Vegas Pro won't continue to work in W10 but there may be W10 ramifications in years to come.

I'd be more concerned about your computer's compatibility with modern versions of Vegas Pro than the Windows version currently being run. Please see System Requirements for Vegas Pro 23 -

An i7 7th gen CPU is well below the recommended specs for AI (i9 - 14th gen) or 4K (i7 - 12th gen). If you're only doing HD captured/edited video without AI FX, you shouldn't have a problem with what you have now.

Even my now 5 years old i9 10th gen is below par for 4K and AI and I'll shortly need to upgrade to newer technology.

That's fair enough, Dexcon. Actually, as a musician I do quite retro music and music video releases with HD quality and can't see a need for complex AI at the moment.

Thanks for bringing up the consideration to think about, though.

Has anyone installed V23 on a win10 box? As MS has allowed extended security updates until 10/26 there appears to be another viable year for win10. Using a stable v22 without problems.

Many people are using Windows 10 but feel free to do the trial if you want to confirm.

@TVJohn said: "Has anyone installed V23 on a win10 box?"

I installed the Vegas Pro 23 trial on Windows 10 Pro along with Vegas Pro 13, 21, and 22. I haven't had any complaints that appear to be from the operating system. I'm currently using the aforementioned applications on Windows 10 Pro for my every-day editing.

I did an OTB Windows 11 Pro installation on my laptop and added Vegas Pro 13 and 22. I also dual-boot the laptop with the Windows 10 Pro version that I have used for years.

My email machine is on Windows 10 Pro with MS Office, etc. and will remain so for the rest of its life. Since the motherboard is 17 years old and still working I'm not changing it until it expires. (Power Supplies don't last 17 years, so it has had three in its life.)

My DVR/Media Server is on an i7-3770(K) with a very trim version of Windows 10 Pro that I just installed last month. I have had an issue with complaints of "TPM related certificate issues" which is interesting because this motherboard doesn't have a TPM. Smarter people than me thinks Microsoft will get that sorted out when one of their coders wakes up.

I have an HP Elite Desk test machine on my workbench and last week, I installed Linux on it. any of the Windows 10 machines mentioned earlier except the Vegas Pro workstation could probably run in a virtual machine.

I have a standalone boot partition with Macrium Reflect on a non-boot disk on every one of my machines, so I can and do change operating systems more often than I change my socks.

I suppose by next October it may make sense to update MoBo and CPU to accommodate Win11, but until then....
