How do you retire as a B3 player? I was in southern California last weekend for a memorial to an old friend (a bass player) I played with in the 60s. The guitar player that we both worked with at the time has a son that also plays guitar, now. When we went to the son's house I was surprised to find that he had a B3 and two Leslie tone cabinets in his living room. That took me back.
His wife apparently is OK with the B3, but it takes a sizable living room.

There's got to be a joke in there somewhere . . .

In actuality, I sold my walnut B console to a kids band for $600 (in the '80s). Then I found out how much it was really worth.

I still play some B-3 licks for rock musicals, I guess the latest was JC Superstar, and a few dance events. I've customized a few good presets out of my Yamaha synth for these shows. I miss the drawbars, but not the 600 lb. cabinet.

I go into the showroom to fool around with the XK-3, which sounds so much like the original it brings a tear to my eye -- it even has a "dirty" knob.
