Vegas 18/19: Crackling sounds with certain videofiles

Helmut-Reinelt schrieb am 26.11.2021 um 20:31 Uhr

After setting up my new workstation I have a really strange problem: There are heavy crackling sounds when playing from the timeline. This happens only with certain files. All the other ones play absolutely clean. When I mute their videotrack the crackling is gone... Putting them in a different track doesn't help. Even when I start a new project and import them as the only files the same crackling happens.

And yes: All of the files in the timeline are from the same camera, date and session. So it doesn't seem to be an codec related issue.
And no: This happens in no other editing or player software. For me it is quite obviously a Vegas related issue.

Here's my config:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700G
MB: Gigabyte B450M S2H V2
GFX: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 OC 6GB
Audio: Realtek High Definition Audio

Thanks for help!

Can you post the mediainfo of such a file? Please in tree or text form. The programme is free of charge.

Thanks for your answer. Seemingly the crackling issue is not caused by the videofile. Files with absolutely identical properties behave completely different. Interestingly those who crackle, do it in all tracks, all timelines and all projects. Those who don't have no issues anywhere. Rendering the cracklers will get you absolutely clean undistorted audio.

But luckily I was able to solve the problem by disabling the NVIDIA RTX 2060 gpu acceleration in the video preferences of my Vegas 18. Not without wondering that this didn't stop the RTX to gpu-accelerate playback and rendering. Rendering time and cpu/gpu load was exactly the same no matter if the RTX acceleration was enabled or not.

Use Vegas and be prepared for interesting adventures...

Helmut-Reinelt- I had the same problem with crackling audio on the Vegas Pro 17 timeline. There was no crackle with any other playback software - just on Vegas. I thought at first it was my camera but then I realized that it played fine anywhere else. Your suggestion of changing from the video card processor to the CPU did the trick! I have a Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070. I have the same CPU as you. I was almost prepared to ditch Vegas but I have used it for years and love the software. The one issue I still have is that it randomly crashes. Any ideas on that? Thank you

Crashes seem to be Vegas immanent since Magix took over. They usually happen when I do a lot of editing steps in short time. Such as timing adjustions between several layered tracks in bigger projects. It could be a memory issue or maybe a codec problem when Vegas changed to the Magix or just the weather... Who knows. There was no useful response from Magix support to my questions. Interestingly it seems that the chrash rate has lowered in V19. Maybe sombody here has more info about this.

@Helmut-Reinelt @STEVEN-STEFANY
For the crash problem, your information is too diffuse to draw conclusions from - besides, you are going off topic.
If you want to pursue the crash issue further, I would suggest that each of you open a new thread and describe there as precisely as possible what exactly causes the crash.

At this good opportunity you should also add your system environment to your profile under "Signature" - see my signature as a sample. This avoids endless threads with questions and answers.

As a pattern, which data you should provide, you can use this as a roadmap:

Thanks Helmut-Reinelt. Got it. I agree with you between the lines. Looks like I'm done here:)
