Vegas pro crashes several times per hour

David-Hammer schrieb am 11.02.2023 um 00:13 Uhr

I have a completely fresh install of windows 10 on my pc and a fresh install of vegas pro 20 and my processor and ram is not nearly fully utilized but vegas keeps crashing time and time again. The only thing I have done is tried to piece together some stock royalty free mp4 clips i downloaded from Vegas hub, no special transitions, just cut them here and there and put them one after the other but just from previewing what i put together so far it freezes and crashes despite processor and memory having plenty of headroom.

If no one has a quick fix for this I will go for a refund and switch to another editing software, this experience is unbearable, I waste so much time and I won't be saving every 3 minutes and restart the program all the time.

My pc is

Gigabyte 970 dspu3a

Amd fx8320

16gb ddr3 ram

1660ti gpu

SSDs

Just like our pc-s..
One with 1660Ti /i7/32GB other 1660Super/Ryzen5/16GB, both with latest nvidia Studio driver.
Maybe that's buggy?

#1 Ryzen 5-1600, 16GB DDR4, Nvidia 1660 Super, M2-SSD, Acer freesync monitor

#2 i7-2600, 32GB, Nvidia 1660Ti, SSD for system, M2-SSD for work, 2x4TB hdd, LG 3D monitor +3DTV +3D projectors

Win10 x64, Vegas22 latest

NVDEC decoding was buggy for me with the 1050. You can try turning it off in preferences/file io and see if it edits without crashing. If so consider an Intel ARC card that gets you decoding that works well in Vegas and better performance than 16XX NVIDIA for not too high a price.

But how can a so important feature "buggy" in Studio drivers??

I don't get it.

It would be useful to see MediaInfo for these files.

I think it's an issue with how NVDEC works in Vegas rather than generally.

Studio drivers are just about the same as the gaming drivers just released less frequently and with features like a 10 bit color pipeline. Don't expect too much.

Other times expert users here always recommended nvidia studio driver.
It's in the top 3 suggestion. So now it's not so important? 😕

@relaxvideo Please confirm that your file is from the same source as @David-Hammer's?

relaxvideo schrieb am 12.02.2023 um 11:04 Uhr

Sorry, i cannot confirm, i only agree with David-Hammers, that Vegas (or nvdec?) does have
some issue with standard files from Vegas hub or also from a Sony ZV-E10 cam.
Maybe that also help for devs!

@relaxvideo Ok so we still need @David-Hammer to post media info on one of the mp4 files giving problems.

I think autosaving while any going on processing like stabilizing, ripple edit, slipping track, or mostly while UNDO or REDO, can make these types of crashes. because i mostly suffer crashes while these processings.

Try here? https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo/Download/Windows

Otherwise if you use a media player like MPC it's in properties.

Is this with all versions of Vegas 20 or with a particular build?
For reference:-
Initial release: build 139 (I believe)
Update 1: build 214
Update 2: build 326
Help -> About to get the build version you're running.
326 crashes on my (getting on quite a bit) rig when opening files from my camcorder, but 214 is rock solid.
