The PC is pretty out of date. Ram and GPU are fine but CPU is old. I'd just right-click on media and "create video proxy." I did this with a computer from 2012 and used it with 4K footage for years.

Did you tried to use proxies?

Is the pc out of date or can i upgrade some components?

If we knew the exact hardware components used and the MediaInfo of your sources and the used project format and rendertemplate, maybe we can say something, but upgrading only components looks to me not so good.

@allan-p I have a PC with those specs, and GTX 1080, definitely use proxies for 4K. You can check out its position in the benchmarking thread where I posted its results. Still a capable machine.

Hello. Well that's new to me, Proxy. #2 why isn't it a good idea upgrading components?

RogerS wrote on 2/15/2021, 7:49 PM

Because to upgrade the CPU also means upgrading the motherboard, ram, power supply so it's more sensible to build or buy a new machine.

JN- wrote on 2/16/2021, 10:41 AM

@allan-p Thats why I didn’t upgrade, instead I did a new build, theres not much can be done to improve the 4790k really, if u are looking for substantial improvements.

I see the point in a total upgrade would make sense:) Would a Ryzen 9 5900x be a good cpu for video or is the 3900x enough with a 1000gb Nvme M2 or two of them. I maybe have to upgrade my TX650w psu as well. Ram i've read about should be minimum 3200 or 3600mhz 32gb or 64gb..

JN- wrote on 2/20/2021, 6:08 AM

@allan-p The PSU, by chance, the other day I checked out my PC, see signature, rendering out 4K benchmarking project using CPU and HW encoding. The Max draw was 404 Watts, but that included my Dell 34 inch WQHD screen. Other, say gaming loads might increase that max value for sure, but from a VP point of view that max value might give you some idea. I have an 850W PSU.

When I started looking around for a new computer a year or so ago and explored a whole lot of opinions, the main one re Vegas Pro was that the best to go for was one with the maximum number of cores and the highest CPU speed. Both the 3900x and 5900x seem to be almost the same in both these regards. There are so many variables elsewhere that its hard to reach an easy conclusion. Have a look at this thread starting off mid 2019 re much the same thing: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/help-grazie-spend-his-dosh--115726/?page=6#ca727171

Well a 850w psu would be a good idea and if i can find the 5900x anywhere here in Denmark it would be epic:)

Every Ryzen 9 5900x cpu is out of stock everywhere:(

JN- wrote on 2/20/2021, 10:06 AM

@allan-p Appears to be available in Amazon.de. If, when, you do build then would be good to add your benchmarks to the Benchmarking thread here.

Maybe check this forum thread out, issues, crashes with the 5900x.
