@Ken-Theriot  ... 3POINT's suggestion is precisely what I suggested to you 2 days ago on your other post re this same issue:

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/cookie-cutter-square-repeat-grid-border-thicknesses--125700/#ca782268

... where I suggested:

Is changing the Cookie Cutter shape from square to rectangle a viable option? With rectangle chosen, the H and V borders are the same with 10 x 7.

No need for PS, use Cookie Cutter (with showed settings) in Vegas to create grid and Crop Fx together with Pip Fx to crop, size and position your media.

That's awesome! How did you get the borders to all be the same thickness? Is it just the difference between squares and rectangles? Because this is just what I've done except I used squares.

Cookie Fitter works sometimes confusingly. Let's say a square doesn't fit in a rectangle but a rectangle does.

Ken-Theriot wrote on 12/6/2020, 12:18 PM

Of course a rectangle can be created from squares. And some of the examples of virtual choirs use squares, which is why I tried it that way. It should have been a simple matter to distribute the squares evenly and put the extra space around the outer edge for a thicker border around the whole thing (or at least given me that option), rather than creating extra thick grid lines in the vertical direction. But if this is the only way to get the grid lines to be the same thickness, then that will work. Thanks again!

I just experiment with Cookie Cutter method, and one of trouble for this is all box must ended 'intact' on all sides, in this case, all boxes must 'appear' as it is.. no 'half box' on any edge sides by 'default', but however, this can be tricked by putting the cookie cutter fx before pan & crop, and resize the box without maintain the aspect ratio.

or you can also 'add-extra' additional box on each side but not going to use it - leave it unused say one row of each side... that can work as well.

TrackFX can be used to move the whole grid too if needed.

Thanks Set. At this point I've gotten 20+ of the videos set using the cookie cutter grid. So I'll continue like that. This will work for me for this project.

Wiew wrote on 12/20/2020, 3:01 PM

I am following this thread because I want to try this also , never done it before.

A question ... actually 2 ...

1 If you want a grid why don't you just make a png grid with as many windows you want , and put it on top , I did this many years ago for something complely different?

2 Why make a grid ? why not use the pan and zoom , it you want to frame it use a mask , more flexble to animate ???

Ken-Theriot wrote on 12/20/2020, 3:10 PM

All of those things are just different ways of doing it. I am currently just using the cookie-cutter with a 10x7 grid. It just helps me lay things out in a consistent way. But as you say, you can do it with a png like that too (though I've not tried that method yet). After seeing how a musician I like showed the audience clapping at the end of her virtual concert (Kate Rusby), I'm going to incorporate using no grid for multiple 5-second showing of 5-7 videos each. That will allow larger frames so people can see themselves better. And it allows me to mix in the vertical phone videos with the standard landscape ones. So 1 vertical video in the middle with 2 or 3 landscape ones arranged on the right and left. I won't use a grid template or anything for that part.

If you bought Vegas 18 Pro, you might have received a bonus item from NewBlueFX, the Picture Grid FX. It comes in newblueelements3overlay.exe. You can have up to an 8x8 picture grid. For more than 64 in the same frame, you would have to know about making some tracks children of parent tracks.

Intel Core i7 10700K CPU @ 3.80GHz (to 4.65GHz), NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER 8GBytes. Memory 32 GBytes DDR4. Also Intel UHD Graphics 630. Mainboard: Dell Inc. PCI-Express 3.0 (8.0 GT/s) Comet Lake. Bench CPU Multi Thread: 5500.5 per CPU-Z.

Thanks set for linking me in this thread! Indeed I am at the moment writing scripts for exactly this purpose and I can now set up a 20 by 20 video wall in seconds (arbitrary limit, could be higher but I thought "who would?" :D ). I would be happy for some play-testers that figure out bugs and stuff since I am not done by far (going to include transitions between different layouts, space for subtitles, different shapes.. and open to suggestions!), but here is a 3 min demo of what I managed to make it do working on it the last 2 weeks:

All Track Layouts are also composited with a Buss Track in order to enable one to treat them as one videowall and pan along it or place it in 3D space.
