Vegas 10d is a major disappointment as far as I am concerned.
Issues 6, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16 & 17 still exist.
I have not tested the others so far....

Hi ushere,

I will keep editing this post as I promised - on a daily basis. With the help of you (all) I gladly tick those errors from the list that you confirm fixed. I do myself some testing too, but I really need your help here.

So please chime in with your findings!

cheers,

Christian

ushere,

Can you elaborate on issue 15. I still cannot see a selection area in VP10d (32 bit) in the Sony Chroma Key when I select the sampler (pipette) and drag an area in the preview window! Can you ?

I don't know about the others but #16 (sharing of asio) is not confirmed and noted by Sony as far as I know, and I have no issues with sharing my asio drivers. I normally have Vegas and 2 other asio programs open without issue.

IMO... this is not a vegas issue you are having.

(8) Fixed according to poster in foreign forum.

#2 (time code issue) is fixed.

I don't see in the release notes where number 3 (replacing footage) was fixed?
jasman wrote on 5/9/2011, 9:46 AM
With all due respect, #16 certainly IS a Vegas problem and was confirmed by them in the cited thread. V8 does not have the problem. I haven't tested V10d yet, but this fix is not on their list of issues addressed.
However, I can imagine some ASIO driver situations that would give the appearance of not misbehaving. It seems that it is highly dependent on the particular way Vegas software interacts with specific sound cards' ASIO drivers.

re #16 I agree with James; I have 3 soundcards in the PC which use all available ASIO streams (Windows limit is 256 streams) - I have tested this already & VegasPro10d still unjustifiably grabs all of them - I limit Vegas access to ASIO streams with a registry hack.

Haven't had time yet to explore very much 10d. Highly appreciated that you chime in if you have found issues that are on this list and should be removed. I'll edit the list continuously.

cheers,

Christian

PS: Thanks SCS for the item 2 fix - a big helper for me :)

#16 seems to be fixed for me.
Before VP10d only one instance would have my Delta 1010 available...I just opened 3 instances and it is available in all 3.
NickHope wrote on 5/9/2011, 9:29 PM
ChristoC, could you please share the hack, perhaps on the original thread? I suspect I might need this soon.
ChristoC wrote on 5/10/2011, 2:08 AM
Nick, as far as I know the reg hack only works for SSL/Soundscape ASIO driver, and is well known within the SSL/Soundscape user community, therefore no point is giving details here yet until I work out if the general thrust of the hack works for other cards ..... however if you have an ASIO soundcard, maybe PM me and I'll see if we can 'crack some hack' for yours; you can be a crash-test-dummy.....
BTW the hack isn't necessary for applications like IzotopeRX2, Cubase, Nuendo, Reaper & Awave; just VegasPro and some other applications grab all available ASIO streams - the situation varies from manufacturer to manufacturer.

I probably should have reported this earlier, but here are 2 more bugs, reported, acknowledged as bugs and not yet fixed in 10.d.

I) Sony AVC encoder will not render to 30.000 fps. ref:

Steps to recreate:

1) Open Vegas 10.0a Edit: Obviously, this now occurs in 10.0d - just did a cut-and-paste from the incident report.
2) File -> New
3) Click the "Match Media Settings" icon. Navigate to a 30fps (not 29.97) fps .MOV clip. Click "OK"
4) Drag a 30fps .MOV clip to the timeline
5) File -> Render As
6) Select the Sony AVC encoder.
7) Select the Internet 16:9 1280x720-30p Template.
8) Click "Custom"
9) Change "Frame Rate" from "29.970 (NTSC)" to "30.000" and click "OK"
10) Click "Save" to render the project.
11) Vegas reports an undetermined error.

Note: this bug is further documented here: http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=732104&Replies=1

II) MainConcept AVC/AAC CBR bitrate erroneously displays 192,000 bps when setting a bitrate not displayed in the dropdown bitrate selector. ref: 091015-000056 Reported: 10/15/2009

Stabilized media ends in error when doing export to tape. Acknowledged by SCS.
Christian de Godzinsky wrote on 5/15/2011, 3:32 AM
Hi.

Thank you amendegw for notifying on two missing important ones, I added them to the list.

LoTN, can you elaborate on the "Stabilized media ends in error when doing export to tape". What kind of error do you get. Has SCS recognized this as a bug? Do you have a reference number for that?

I planned to close the list (not add new issues) and just edit in upon fixes released, but if you have knowledge of an repeatable issue that deserves to be added, please post it, I will add it to the list.

Hello Christian,

This one was reported in a foreign forum. I suggested to wait for 10d and see. The original poster have had a try with 10d and faced the same issue. According to his last post including a quote from SCS support answer, the problem is in the list of things to fix. I am sorry, I don't have a tracking number.

If I recall correctly, a long time ago, someone reported here that Vegas had problems when trying to save a project with media when there were events stabilized with SCS stabilization plugin based on Mercalli. It looks like this is the same kind of issue but when printing to tape.

Once again... I have NO issues with Vegas and asio and Vegas DOES NOT grab asio for itself. I can open Adobe Soundbooth, Adobe Audtion, And Vegas (all set for asio) at the same time and in fact have them ALL playing at the same time.

I suggest you check your machine or your asio driver because your problem is not Vegas.

WRT #16:

I cannot reproduce Vegas hogging ASIO hardware, as long as the close audio and MIDI hardware general pref is set correctly.

I do not have ChrstoC's SSL hardware to test with, so it could be a specific case with that hardware. I have attempted to contact SSL, but have had no response.

Vegas only opens the ASIO channels that are in use. It does not grab all available streams. So if you hardware has 16 channels, but your project is using only 2, Vegas only opens the 2 streams requested. I have seen hardware/drivers that prevent any other host from using additional channels once a host has opened any channel combination. However, this only occurs if the first host does not release ports on a loss of focus. This was the bug specifically addressed in 10d.

Peter, regardless of the setting "close audio and MIDI hardware" general pref, I have a problem: if I do no limit the available ASIO streams to Vegas (and SoundForge) in Registry I get a message at start "Vegas Pro has stopped working", and Vegas closes.

If I limit the available streams that message goes away and Vegas functions normally, albeit that I can only use the streams I specified in registry for I/O.

In their Driver Readme, SSL advise: Currently ASIO can only access 254 Inputs and 254 Outputs. ASIO will not work properly with the SSL Soundscape ASIO-> ALL DEVICES drivers, when the amount of available IO for all SSL Soundscape Cards exceeds this limit .....
I definitely have enough cards stuffed in the PC to achieve 256 I/O Streams (i.e. exceed the 254 limit) , but do not have ASIO-> ALL DEVICES selected; I have just 1 of the 3 available devices selected, and have the trouble whether I select a device with just 64 or 128 I/O Streams.

Remarkably, SSL/Soundscape's own DAW, "Editor", has no drama accessing and using all 3 cards simultaneously.

In the same PC (and another "spare" PC with just 2 cards; 2 x 64 = 128 streams) other applications like Cubase, Melodyne Studio, IzotopeRX2 and Reaper do not suffer with the same problem as Vegas & Soundforge; i.e. they function fine without any registry hack (although they will present problems, as predicted, when ASIO-> ALL DEVICES is selected). I'm presuming that Cubase behaves fine because Steinberg developed the ASIO spec and probably adhere to it rigidly. Somehow Izotope & Reaper just got it right. Celemony's Melodyne Studio used to behave bad until I & others complained; now since V3.2.1.3 onwards Melodyne Studio no longer monopolizes all ASIO I/Os, with no change to the SSL/Soundscape driver. I know that is fact, as I was Beta-testing for both Celemony and Soundscape at the time.

Therefore I know the problem can be fixed, and it is the application causing the problem.

The SSL/Soundscape cards are true multiclient devices and will happily work sharing streams from as many applications the user chooses to run concurrently. All streams & all audio I/O of all cards simultaneously are made available to all PC-native audio application at the same time, with all driver-standards simultaneoulsy (ASIO2, GSIF2, MME, WDM, DWave).

pwppch wrote on 5/15/2011, 5:21 PM
I am not saying it cannot be fixed, but SSL is not responding to requests for information. As soon as we can communicate with SSL, I am sure we can fix the problem. We have not reproduced this behavior with any ASIO supported hardware.

I will make further attempts to contact SSL. I am sure it is just some mix up in communications.

Can you tell me the exact hardware devices and driver versions you are using from SSL?

Hardware in main PC:
2 x Mixpander9 (64 streams each)
1 x MX4 (128 streams)

Hardware in spare PC:
2 x Mixpander9 (64 streams each)

Drivers:
Version 6.1.0.0

In both cases onboard soundcards are disabled in BIOS.

Peter, if you PM me I can give you email of the person who develops the drivers. He has reproduced the problem and is ready and willing to assist.
