Add Media Across Tracks feature New Bug(VEGAS Pro 22 build 239)

eleven wrote on 1/29/2025, 5:50 AM

I am using VEGAS Pro 22 (build 239).

I was happy to see that the "Add Media Across Tracks" feature was finally fixed, but now I’ve discovered a new bug.

When I finish right-click dragging on the track header and select "Add Across Tracks,"

the event gets embedded under the track header.

The two events at the bottom are positioned correctly. The two events at the top are clearly embedded under the track header.

Also, when performing the operation on the timeline,

the event is created with a slight gap instead of being placed at 0 seconds 0 frames.

Please, hire a competent debugger.
Are we going to have to wait months again for a fix to such a basic feature?

@eleven Yep I get that too.

I see this as well.

When importing multiple events via R clicking on to the timeline, I get this:

When importing another set of multiple events via R clicking on to the timeline but selecting a later position on the timeline, I get this:

... with the result of:

The difference is that importing on to the timeline allows positioning, but importing events on to the track header will always import the media on to the track/s at 00:00:00 thus embedding that media over any other media already placed at 00:00:00.. Equally, if individually importing many separate events on to the timeline via the track header (rather than directly on to the timeline), they'll all end up imported on the one track at 00:00:00. The same behavior occurs in Vegas Pro 12 from over 10 years ago.

What you are seeing is, IMO, not a bug but just not using the most effective way of importing media on to the timeline.

The media isn't being imported at 0:00:00 and the behavior changed from prior versions of VEGAS.

21.208 brings the media in to 0:0:00 when you right click and add across tracks highlighting the start of the timeline. The event label also isn't cut off by the track header.

21:208 vs 22.239

@Dexcon Why have you changed your comment, you've omitted the image that shows the events under the track header when R click Across tracks?

I had never done it before but here's how it looks when right-clicked and added to the track header. Still cut off.

How misaligned is the audio between the two identical videos when I correct one track and bring it to zero?

13 seconds.

Right-click and drop both videos onto the track header and then bring one clip from before 0 to the starting point... 22 seconds.

@Dexcon

The event is not placed at 00:00:00, right? I think there's a slight gap.

Also, even when performing the operation while the mouse cursor is over the track header, VEGAS Pro 17–21 correctly places the beginning of the event at 00:00:00 without embedding it under the track header.

I believe the behavior of VEGAS Pro 21 and earlier is correct, so I think the behavior of VEGAS Pro 22 is a bug.

DMT3 wrote on 1/29/2025, 8:21 AM

I do not use V22 so I may be speaking out of turn here, but it looks like Vegas is seeing a Virtual Timeline under the header and is placing the video at the point you are hovered over, like it is 00:00:00 - x frames.

Dexcon wrote on 1/29/2025, 2:55 PM

Aha ... finally I see what you are getting at. When adding multiple media via the track header using R-click/add across tracks, the beginning of the event and the head thumbnail is 'hidden' before 00:00:00 and when moving or just clicking on the event, the entire length of the event is revealed. Yes, I am getting that in Vegas Pro 22 build 239 so, agreed, that is a bug.

What I was demonstrating earlier was dragging media on to the timeline rather than on to a track header which is something that I've always done. Apologies for having missed the issue of the post.

I think DMT's suggestion might be correct- you can drag the media left of zero whereas it should always snap to zero even if you drag it into negative territory.

Gid wrote on 1/29/2025, 9:19 PM

So if that is a virtual timeline/track does dragging the media onto it put that media into a virtual place whist still retaining a physical presence?🙃😂😉 Because when the event is double clicked the region is in the correct position.

My multi-track audio flash recorder records mono clips and dropping them across tracks is the way I get them into my Vegas projects. It's the 1st thing I do in a new project and I always aim for origin. Been using b239 lately and release the mouse button when I see the outline snap to origin and the clips end up exactly there. If I release the button when pointed too far left, which I've never done before now, I see they do indeed end up with a negative start point in the details-event window. It can be fixed there, by changing the negative start values to zero. That seems to be the only way to fix them if the events are so short that they are invisible on the timeline. If they are visible, however, grouping and dragging them to origin is easier. I always group them anyway because they start out in perfect relative alignment and I like them to stay that way. I'm not seeing any relative alignment issues with my audio clips, even when I drop them into negative timeline space.

I've only seen gaps inserted between video clips if dropped across time while Quantize To Frames is active. I drop continuous-shoot video clips split by cameras across time and they need to abut one another without gaps. Just checked b239 and it's still an issue if Quantize is checked.
