AMD GPU With Title Studio in Vegas Post 19

Luke-Pepper wrote on 2/18/2023, 11:45 AM

Hello there. My Vegas Post 19 works fine with Boris FX Full Suite, including Title Studio. I've just built a new PC and although Vegas and Boris FX work great, Title Studio doesn't. As a standalone program, it works fine and even when editing within Vegas Post 19, it works/looks fine. However, when I click apply and it takes me back to Vegas' preview window, the title effects look like they're on 10% opacity. I've asked Boris FX about this and they said to clear our cache/reinstall their products.

This is a new PC, so all the drivers to everything have been updated, just before I installed a fresh Boris FX/Title Studio. NVidia cards work fine, so there's definitely some issue with AMD RX 6600 cards/ Title Studio within Vegas Post.

They are supposed to be open CL and Boris told me they have no issues with AMD cards.

Has anyone else had this same issue?

@Luke-Pepper, I have a RX 6700XT card. This is a problem though, and it comes down to graphics drivers. I keep past ones that have worked, and will only update to the newer ones if they pass the OFX plugin tests.

Out of the drivers I have, 22.5.1 works as it should. Within Title Studio window, you can see the background (video) and text just fine when selecting Composite over background. Updating to latest one, 23.2.11, adding TS to a clip on the timeline, in the TS window, Composite over background doesn't work. Just a black screen. And what you described is what I also see on the actual timeline.

I also tried 22.11.2, and the same results, but not even NBFX Titler Pro 7 doesn't even load the library causing Vegas to crash.

I haven't tried Pro Edition 22Q4 yet.

Now, I also have Resolve Studio that I should test this in to see if the latest AMD drivers and TS work in it without an issue. And since Boris is an OFX plugin, it should work similarly, and you should get the same results.

For the time being (heading out to the movies with wife), I have 22.5.1 and it works.

A "work around" of sorts is to take from Media Generator>Solid Color, a black background, make sure all the numbers for color value are "0". You can then add TS as an FX, and it will work.

Thank you for your reply and information. Boris FX informed me that their software is open-source, which I don't doubt, so your addition does suggest it's with AMD's side of things. Being busy, I've had to take the card out and put in an Nvidia, which worked straight away. I think I may try AMD's new integrated graphics with their Ryzen 9 7900 cpu, to add weight to it being their RX 6600/drivers problem...I didn't think to check that before I put in my Nvidia. Many thanks for your reply and time, greatly appreciated!

I have the same opacity issues with a Radeon WX3200. Also, with the TypeON and Extruded Text FX. IF, I set Anti Aliasing to "Draft" in the Render settings of the FX opacity returns on all three. I think the same issue occurs with the Spline OFX also. If you find an answer, post it here. BTW, it is definitely a Radeon issue. I do not have the issue with Intel GPU only. That is, the Radeon card cannot be live in any way.

BTW, I have fiddled around with myriad combinations of the Radeon anti-aliasing settings to no avail. Maybe I just haven't hit the right combo.

Thank you for your reply and information. I think with both replies to my original post, wrap it up with regards to problems with AMD/Radeon RX and Boris FX/Vegas Post combinations. I'll be sticking with NVidia now, as 'it just works' as they say. Many thanks!

@Luke-Pepper I opened Title Studio (I have Continuum Complete 2023) in Resolve Studio 18, no problems with Title Studio. Ignite Pro works in Resolve (not as easily as Vegas) with 22.5.1, but any driver more current, it doesn't.

@monoparadox if it were an AMD issue, then Title Studio would not be working in Resolve Studio 18. And if you can find 22.5.1, no problems at all.

@Howard-Vigorita how did you even find this link? I tried the search box on the AMD site, and 22.11.2 comes back, even if I type in 22.5.1

What, AMD doesn't want anyone to be able to find it??
