App frequently throwing "An error occurred opening the media file"

Hello

Am using Vegas 18.0 (build 527)

I'm working on a mixed-media project, principally MP4s and MP3s for sound layer

The app very frequently throws "An error occurred opening the media file" and the details of the audio file

(Screencap - https://gyazo.com/dca8d0c350380bcbca166f9a7a55bb22)

This is a fatal error.

If I click on the 'Specify a replacement media file' per the screenshot and specify the original file, it throws another error

I can click anything I like but from this point onward my session is all but dead. I have no remedy but to exit the application and re-open

There is no one-thing that seems to cause it. I can leave the PC alone for a few mins and it will appear by itself. I can work on another object and it will throw it.

It's incredibly frustrating and at this moment I cannot work on this project at all.

The disk the audio file is on, is a SSD SATA attached internally, not USB attached or anything like that.

My PC is no slack PC

AMD Ryzen 9 5950X 16-Core Processor

128GB RAM

SSDs for days with oodles of space

RX6900XT GPU

Any ideas?

I have done that CTRL-SHIFT while opening the app to 'reset' the app. That seems to buy some time but eventually it will return.

Try rendering the lossy audio files to a (non-compressed) PCM format. Lossy file types frequently cause problems with third-party codecs. Render or transcode externally or 'Tools> Render to new track'. There are scripts available to facilitate multiple tracks, but I do not think one is natively included in VP.
