Will do the trial, then very likely upgrade. Faster playback of HD (all forms) would be enormously useful.
Question: if Sony develops a feature for the consumer version (Vegas Movie Studio), should they disable it in the full version so that people won't complain that they didn't ask for it and don't want it? Should they fear that allowing it to trickle into the full version makes it look like a consumer app? (Example: red eye removal)
I have decided I will actualy upgrade albeit reluctantly. I surely hope Sony doesnt expect us to wait for V8 for next gen authoring though. So I wonder if purchases will be available after midnight.
Maybe Blu-Ray / HD-DVD technology is not mature enough for authoring to be anything better than beta material. Perhaps even the mega-$$ solution already out is subject to a lot of future changes & support. Releasing something now could be an expensive mistake later. I guess the companies with promises to release it soon will learn one way or the other. Their users will be our beta testers for whatever the authoring spec is. They'll find problems in the spec, the spec will get revised, and early adopters will find that their discs are incompatible with future players. None of this would surprise me...
Jay I totally agree with your assesment. Its a fear I have as well but I dont want to be a late comer either epsecially with those chomping at the bit for ANYTHING HD at this point.
Having just played with the new version, just the fact that the Madison guys have chosen to stick to the philosophy of NOT using GPU accelaration and have opted to optimise the prog for hdv playback is a no brainer for the hdv users in my mind.
3 Mpeg streams on the timeline and still previewing at 25fps - go figure!
I support the philosophy of not having a GPU accelarated system. Just imagine the headaches of "does this card work" or "my graphics card doesn't show an improvement.
The philosophy of Vegas not having to rely on external graphic accelerators is a great thing for those who don't want to/can't afford to - this is what has kept Vegas strong - the need for a high end machine is not there. More so now with V7!!
And yes, I will be upgrading as this sovles 80% of my headaches and workflow issues

ok thats got moy mouth watering...3 HDV m2t's at what resolution on the preview window or external preview. Oops i guess even that answer is complicated w the rumors of the preview feature changed.
gonaa be a busy day tomorrow , not gonna be too productive on the project front with new things to discover..!!!
"3 HDV m2t's at what resolution on the preview window"
Just did another test to satisfy your curiosity :)
Footage at 1440x1080x32 - preview at 480x270x32 internal preview set to "good" - can't preview HD external yet - I've got to get a BMD or AJA for that.
Ok, maybe its my eyes....I took a DVD quality capture and decided to upres to 720p....simply put....AMAZING! Can someone else check and see if I am on crack or something?
It's my guess that they'll offer BD support in a later build. After all, Ulead is currently offering BD support in a $50.00 app. Hard to believe that Sony would leave us blowing in the wind while another company scoops up first adopters. Also, Blu-Print hasn't been out that long, and at $50,000 a shot, Madison probably wants to sell a few of those before moving on to us ;-)

P.S. I'm on V4/DVDA1 still, so I'll try first (or buy when I upgrade my computer). I'm with Craftech on this one.
It appears that Ulead added BD support in their Movie Factory SP1. HD DVD support needs the burning pack. I can't confirm this though as I don't own the software or the drive to test it on.
Ulead always crashed on me. Pinnacle, also, as well as Pinnacle corrupted all video decoding on all my PCs.
Until Vegas crashes my system consistently, (disclaimer: I was using Vegas when my system crashed once in V6. That's since I've been using Vegas V4, V5 and V6), I'll be upgrading.
