Sorry, no straight answer. Just spent $2500 on new home electrical panel and refrigerator. House about burned down. There went my Vegas money and more.

Casinos have reopened recently from Hurricane Katrina..."Come on! Baby needs new Vegas!"

Edited. Sorry, answer to your question, "Yes" as soon as feasible.

I will upgrade if they name it Vegas 7000! You know, like the local TV news channel 8 calls their Dopler radar "Dopler 8000" or the helicopter for channel 2 is called 'Chopper 2000'. I think I will get it fer sure if there are a few more 0's attached to the name!

Yes, but mostly for DVDA4

Probably won't be able to stop myself. But I'll let a few of you road-test it first.

No
I do not do HD and there are's norhing I want for SD editors. I moved to v6 from V5 because
1-I liked AV sync feature
2-DVDA3 cleared the MPEG2 bug which bugged(!) me in V5.0d.

But for me:
V6 is slower than V5

Yes.

The ability to monitor in the preview window as well as on an external device is well overdue. That way I can position the preview window to suit me and not for the client. I just hope the resolution of the external preview is independent of the preview window.
In my view this is looking to be a reasonable upgrade. May not have everything I was hoping for, but enough to hopefully keep me happy until V8.

YES

It is still the easiest NLE to teach students and still powerful. It is always a good idea to keep up with software upgrades when you can for support etc. It will be next year before all 15 stations are upgraded.

OT: Keith, I saw the snippet of your class' show on ocps and brother, you are creating something special there with those kids. Keep up the awesome work.

Not sure why the answer has to be determined before anyone gets a chance to try it or gets a chance to read other user opinions.

I will wait and see if there are any of the improvements I have been looking for just as I did with Vegas 5 and 6. There weren't any so I am still using Vegas 4 and will continue to do so until they decide to upgrade the basic things many of us want.

Yes I'll upgrade just to be able to drag stuff down from a top-mounted media pool.

Please remember that HDV is a comsumer format. Just like DV25 is. Granted, these are both usable commercially, but they are designed to be usable by consumers.

Could Sony find that Vegas is only used by consumers and prosumers? Isn't that where it is now? Many of the efforts in this new version are aimed at making it more viable for professionals. This is not to say that the new features are particularly compelling to me, but they really are trying to get into the lower end of the professional market.

Based on what I've read so far, I don't see me needing the upgrade, so at this point,
No.
And that makes me very sad. I love, Love, LOVE Vegas, but I'm watching it fall behind.
rmack350 wrote on 9/11/2006, 10:04 AM
I suppose the extra time could have been because programmers were heavily involved with Acid developement, or maybe thay felt it was a good idea to wait for more developement in Vista...

Any number of reasons that might not have anything to do with putting 6 additional months of "quality time" into the product.

I had a similar reluctance to upgrade from photoshop 6. No desire to use version 7, no practical reason to us CS since my work hadn't migrated, and now I'm using CS2 because that's what the office is using.

There's nothing wrong with not upgrading, or upgrading. It's just as "Borg-like" to insist tha everyone not upgrade in protest.

Personally, It's in my budget, a planned expense, and gets rid of some things that bother me. So I'll probably upgrade unless there's something rally bad about V7.

I just found out I need graphical subtitles for a paid client project I'm currently working on.

Unless this feature is broken in DVDA4, I'll upgrade just to get that.
David Arbogast wrote on 9/11/2006, 10:13 AM
Wow. It's too early to decide this. I'll wait till I have a full demo to play with. If I find that I can't live without it, then the answer is yes. Otherwise, what's the incentive? Some companies build in an incentive to upgrade by making an upgrade increasingly expensive for users of earlier versions. If Sony doesn't do this, then it might be more prudent to skip a level and wait for V8. I don't touch HD and Photoshop already has a "red eye" routine, so I'm not sure if there's anything substantial in V7 for us non-HD/non-red-eye users.

BTW: Maybe I just don't get it, but red-eye removal tool seems pointless to me, because I edit my stills in a photo-editing program before bringing them into Vegas, so what's the point for this ALL NEW!!! fx? Was that on anyone's wishlist?

Yes. V5 --> V7, but especially for DVDA2 --> DVDA4.

P.S. For those of you not buying the upgrade, can you not download the trial for awhile when it comes out...so those of us who are standing in the line with money in our hands won't get stuck behind the crowd of curious on-lookers--and will get a faster download. ;-)

Thank you... out of the way please. Watch your elbows. Can I get over you, please don't block the entrance, need to get in here...good. Appreciate your help.

Got it.... (umm, taste.... (HEY! It isn't any faster! Where's the GPU rendering support? This feature's broken. Where's the... oh well, it will keep me satisfied for awhile).

I don't think it was on anyone's wishlist but it was in studio so they added it.

I suppose it's possible that Redeye Removal is adjustable and can be used to tame other types of hotspots and hits...

My favorite part of using Vegas is coming up with uses for things for which they were not intended. Perhaps red eye removal will be one of those things. ;-)

I wonder if it's keyframeable.
