What version of VEGAS is this?

Did you render to MagixAVC or another format?

I'm using Vegas Pro 22. These are my audio render settings, although this still happens when I play it back in Vegas.

RogerS wrote on 6/11/2025, 9:11 PM

That is important detail.

If it plays back improperly it's not a render issue, it's a problem reading the source file.

Next question is what the source file is. Please share MediaInfo for it:

Can I see the rest?

MediaInfo can be used to show the detailed properties of your source media, which is a great help in troubleshooting many VEGAS issues. Open your file with it, and switch it to text view ("View" > "Text"):

Highlight all the text in the window, copy it and paste it in your forum post. You can put it in a code block using the blue < > brackets above the input window.

Thanks for this! Why VEGAS is having trouble with such a file is a question. I assume in a media player (MPC, VLC, etc.) it sounds fine?

Two ideas for workarounds are:

  1. check legacy AVC decoding in preferences/ file io.
  2. Do a re-encode (I use ShutterEncoder for this. Output codec h264).

Do either help?

I'd be happy to test the file here as well with VP 22 if you could make it available for download.

Yeah it only sounds fine when playing the raw file in Media player. I tried using ShutterEncoder to do the re-encode but it didn't really work. I've uploaded the file here, see if you can fix it. https://pixeldrain.com/u/GVk5iiGL

@Frowny13 I didn't have an issue at around ~2:13 where you showed the stuttering. I played the rest of the video and didn't notice strange artifacts.

Can you compare your audio settings to mine?

Increasing buffering times could help. You could try a different audio device type, too. Enable or disable track buffering and see if it helps at all.

What kind of computer is this? Laptop? Desktop? I'm testing on my ASUS laptop.

Frowny13 wrote on 6/11/2025, 10:20 PM

I think the stuttering started when I made loads of edits. My audio settings are exactly the same. Messing with the buffering times didn't make any difference. I have an iBuypower super computer which should be more than capable. Also I copied everything in the timeline over to Vegas 17 and the stuttering issue went away, but all the audio is out of sync.

Could you direct message me and share the . veg project then? Would be great to get to the bottom of this.

@Frowny13 Download and replace your problem file with this one:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/17NtggzGI9tL7nYnwYNq1rOSnzQvWuOFS/view?usp=sharing

If it works, I'll 'splane what I did.

If it doesn't work, I'll give you your money back.

It works! No audio stuttering anymore.

@Frowny13

In Shutter Encoder I:

  • Re-encoded the video and changed the Group of Pictures from 125 to 50. (This may not be necessary, but it is easier to edit).
  • I converted the audio from 44.1kHz to 48kHz and saved as PCM to avoid a generation loss.

PCM audio prompted saving in a MOV wrapper.
