Best settings for optimal program usage

Hey guys,

I have a upcoming project for a short video, but when I used to edit in Vegas Pro 16, the program was crashing and the preview was lagging when multiple video tracks were used. Could you tell me what would be the best settings (Preview, Max RAM, Display size and resolution) for my PC setup listed down below? If needed, I can post screenshots of my current settings.

  • CPU: i5-4690K
  • Mobo: MSI Z87-G43
  • OS: Windows 10 Home
  • GPU: GeForce GTX 750Ti
  • RAM: 16GB DDR3 1600MHz
  • Vegas version: VEGAS Pro 16

@ghostreaven And the Media you’re using is? Others may also comment on your i5 CPU as being under powered. Let’s see.

Preview/Auto

Max RAM,

0 or 200 MB, you have to find what suites you the best

Display size and resolution

Those of the most used files

@Kinvermark I have a 128GB SSD for my os, and about 40GB is free and a 1TB HDD for the media files.

Depends on what you use as preview window,
is that preview in the Vegas interface (partly or full)

or do you use one or more external displays?

I already thought that.
That's why I placed that screenshot with the possible options to select and from which the one in the red box is most important for smooth playback.

Your system is a little bit light for video editing, so you likely have to make some workflow compromises to get a good editing experience. However, we still need to know your media & project settings to give you proper advice.

So, do read Nick Hope's FAQ's and post your  media & project settings.
