Bug Resulting in Audio being in the wrong place

Alonzorion wrote on 3/1/2023, 2:42 PM

I recently upgraded to Pro 18 (Build 527, Windows 10) and not long into editing, was hit with this rather problematic bug where audio will part and start playing in the incorrect place? Demonstrated in the video below is a place where it's playing in a place there's no visible audio in the timeline, it also renders this way too! D:

Any help's massively appreciated.

Unfortunately still an issue and where as at first, it seemed to only occur at the end of projects being somewhat possible to work around by shifting everything around, it now seems to just pop up anywhere. I may have to switch back to Vegas 15 as it's impossible to work with.

Could be a damaged or non-standard source video. Have you tried creating a proxy?

What happens if you export the audio track as PCM / WAV using Avidemux? Does the audio track come out healthy?

Unfortunately, I think it's just Vegas-side. The video I've been editing in recent is about 20 hours worth from three separate sources, however I have tried making a proxy and the same problem arose. The same issue doesn't seem to arise anywhere else? I tried opening it in the likes of audacity, sending it through handbrake, various media players, but everything's still in the correct place after.

Out of curiosity looking at your Project settings considering the source material. Why don't they match? Why are you using 32bit with the video 8bit?

Do you have a shorter sample of original video where this happens that can be uploaded to the cloud?

Setting the project to 32bit is an old habit due to Vegas' discolouration issues, I didn't know they'd been fixed in the more recent versions since! I do have a bit of video I can upload to the cloud, here you go! However as previously mentioned, this is unfortunately happening with many types of video captured from various sources.

Thanks. I've tested it on my still installed Vegas 15 too and it also works just fine there, it also works fine on the problematic Vegas 18 to begin with, this issue usually arises after an hour or so of editing.

I do have VP18 installed on my computer. Thanks for the clip.

I chopped the clip up a lot. Added BorisFX, Boris Transitions, Ignite Pro, color grading, Sapphire etc.. to the clips and it played back just fine on my computer spec'ed below in my signature. Rendering using AMD VCE, was fast until it got to the Sapphire plugins which work with the CPU and not GPU.

Once rendered out, with all the fx and transitions, it also played back fine with no audio playing in an empty area on the timeline.

Even using your Project settings. But have you tried using the settings of your actual video?

Tried reducing to 8bit on the most problematic project and unfortunately made no difference, tried messing around with some other project settings too specifically in the audio tab, dropping those to see if it'd make any difference and sadly nothing there too.

Others will be way better able to advise on this, but your MediaInfo report shows the video fps is 59.940 fps constant but the audio fps as 46.875 FPS (1024 SPF) constant - that's a significant difference which would mean that the audio and video are playing at different frame rates which could be the reason for the loss of sync.

That's very bizarre, thanks for noticing that, you could be onto something there as that'd make sense, however it doesn't slide out of sync slowly, it does so suddenly beyond a cut-off point. In one project for example, I had about 40 minutes of perfectly in-sync audio, then 5 minutes of completely out of sync audio that was being repeated from 20 minutes earlier.
