Buying a new computer... Advice on Vegas Traansfer

Thomas-Monks wrote on 5/29/2022, 2:28 PM

Greetings !

After 10 yers, I"m buying a new computer. Running Vegas 16 with some free Boris 3d effects included. I'm also running Voxengo audio addons, with NEAT video noise reduction.

An I.T. friend said to ALWAYS reinstall fresh... ok. 2 questions:

1) is Vegas 19 (or whatever is current) worth the additional money (I'm poor and cheap) ?

2) What differences are there between 16 and the current (19?)

3) What about my free BCC effects and getting my 3 addons working on the new machine ?

4) Both Machines are 16GB, but the new machine is DDR4, and new machine is 1TB SDD, instead of HDD. Any guess how much faster (reduced rendering times in 4K?)

Your help is grately appreciated.

Tom

@Thomas-Monks, first of all, I would say that Yes - it is worth it. First of all you'll be three versions newer and there have been many things added. Plus, 16 is no longer supported.

2. Please see here: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vegas-pro-vegas-post-release-history--104998/?page=2#ca728826

3. The free plugins could be tricky. You might do a search on the forum. There's also this:

4. I couldn't say without testing. Plus there's many more variables than just hard drive and RAM.

While I'd recommend 19 over 16 for improved stability and decoding support, don't expect massive render time differences. Here is a standardized render benchmark: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1b3ggVifKsuT-cp2kQHjum_KnQ4-2jBmUIvzmu7BQZ34/

And - as @j-v already indicated, we don't know what exactly you are looking for - the requirements are too different - test your questions yourself - every system under Windows has its own configurations - in the end, it's no use if it works perfectly for me - and tweaks for you.
With special problems you are helped here with pleasure.

Thank you all, I did upgrade to 19. The offer came with some effects package which will be helpful. Hey, new machine, new software :-)
