Move the troublesome VST out of the folder VEGAS is looking in and restart VEGAS.

Sometimes there are issues with locked/unactivated VSTs.

Custom PC (2022) Intel i5-13600K with UHD 770 iGPU with latest driver, MSI z690 Tomahawk motherboard, 64GB Corsair DDR5 5200 ram, NVIDIA 2080 Super (8GB) with latest studio driver, 2TB Hynix P41 SSD and 2TB Samsung 980 Pro cache drive, Windows 11 Pro 64 bit

ASUS Zenbook Intel i9-13900H with Intel graphics iGPU with latest ASUS driver, NVIDIA 4060 (8GB) with latest studio driver, 48GB system ram, Windows 11 Home, 1TB Samsung SSD.

Try the
VEGAS 4K "sample project" benchmark (works with VP 16+): https://forms.gle/ypyrrbUghEiaf2aC7
VEGAS Pro 20 "Ad" benchmark (works with VP 20+): https://forms.gle/eErJTR87K2bbJc4Q7

Does it never complete even if you let it sit for a long time?

Do you have many VSTs? Some places they may be are:

C:\Program Files\VST Folder
C:\Program Files\VSTPlugIns
C:\Program Files (x86)\VSTPlugIns
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steinberg

Copy them all out of the folder to another one and do this one folder at a time until VEGAS starts? If you can narrow down which one is causing the issue it would be good to let the staff here know.

What exactly are those old plugins and have you checked those plugins' websites to make sure that those old plugins are compatible with Vegas Pro?

As those old plugins have now been uninstalled, there are 2 things that you could try:

1. Reset Vegas Pro 20 back to its default (factory) settings via the following process: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-can-i-reset-vegas-pro-to-default-settings--104646/

2.. Run a registry cleaner like CCleaner to remove any ghost registry listings left in the registry after the plugin uninstalls.
