I was shocked to see Vegas 14 can not open a standard iPhone .MOV video file. I note that even the built-in Windows player has no issue playing and opening these files.

Confusingly both mediainfo and VLC recognise iphone 8 clips as AVC even though they are supposed to be HEVC. I just convert them in handbrake.

There is a setting to select HEVC on the iPhone 8. Your video probably is AVC.
