Cannot import AVI files, Vegas 18 works

Converting to ProRes444 isn't really an option, as I have many AVI files (over 500+)

Batch converting 500* files to ProRes 4444 with Shutterencoder is an option, because it goes very quick and needs just one mouseclick.

I'm still wondering that the orignal AVI can be opened in VP18.

@Julius_ Have you downloaded and re-installed the Lagarith v1.3.27 codec from the Official web site?

I don't have quicktime installed though.

@Julius_ I don't know if having Quicktime installed makes any difference but this is the one i have.

Not yet but will try it soon...I may also try a different approach as I have the After Effects project and I will re-render it myself with the ProRess 444 alpha channel.

I can't wrap my head around that it works in V18.

Julius_ wrote on 2/19/2026, 9:19 AM

I tried with another AVI non-lagarith codec and have the same problem...these AVI files and not alpha channels...

Again, it works in Vegas 18. I can't believe it myself in this screen recording

Maybe, it's time for: (FAQ) How can I reset VEGAS Pro to default settings?

3POINT wrote on 2/19/2026, 2:16 PM

@Julius_ I can import your (broken) avi into VP23:

Julius_ wrote on 2/19/2026, 2:35 PM

Wonderful, everyone can except me :( ahhh...Might have to nuke everything and reset Vegas.

RogerS wrote on 2/19/2026, 8:02 PM

FWIW I could also open it without issue in 23 and have nothing specially installed for AVIs. I'd reset VEGAS.

Gid wrote on 2/19/2026, 10:53 PM

@Julius_ I didn't try 19, 20 & 21 but VP18 & VP22 are fine.
