Cannot Import Video | 3840x2880 30fps | Vegas Pro 17

BRKsEDU wrote on 5/29/2020, 9:08 AM

Hi, hopefully someone will be able to help me out!

I'm trying to import a 3840x2880 30fps file into Vegas Pro 17 (latest build - 452) but it won't accept it. The resolution is weird because it is a 2160p on the top of the canvas and a 720p on the bottom of the canvas.

The error message I receive is the following: "Warning: An error occurred while loading the project file. The file could not be opened. Make sure the file exists and that you have access to the file/folder" - I do know that the file exists and that I have access to the file/folder, and I'm actually able to play it with several different players.

I have recorded the file via OBS with the same base settings I use except for the resolution - normally I record in 1920x2160 (two 1080p's, one is gameplay and the other one is my facecam), so in theory the file should be fine.

File is originally recorded with NVENC as an MKV with 6 audio tracks, then remuxed into an MP4 with the same 6 audio tracks. Working on Windows 10, 32GB of RAM, with an NVIDIA 1660 Super and an AMD 3700X.

My guess is that because the file is above 4K res Vegas is not accepting it, but as far as I know Vegas should work with files up to 8K, right?

Thanks!

What are you planning to do with that file?
I ask this because maybe Vegas 17 accept the file I think but cannot render the result to those dimensions, 3840x2304 is the max.
Show us also the MediaInfo of that file.

The file is just a test recording, but if I manage to use this type of recording, after editing, it will be rendered as a 4K (2160p) 30fps gameplay with facecam. The resolution is different because I prefer working with a single file that contains everything I need already synced (instead of having to work with multiple files and syncing them - this saves me a lot of time) but not already put together (so I can adjust audio as well as place the facecam where I want, and so I can screenshot gameplay for thumbnails without the facecam blocking part of the gameplay screen).

It doesn't appear to be the pixel dimensions.

Look at recording characteristics.

If I change the recording resolution (only that, everything else stays the same - encoder, bitrate, framerate, recording format, etc) to 2160p then Vegas accepts it. So I'm not sure if it's the recording characteristics unless there is something hidden being changed when I change the resolution upwards of 2160p on OBS!

@BRKsEDU

I made for you a testfile with Pro 17 and render with Voukoder and after that loaded it into Vegas Pro 17, no problem with that testfile with this MediaInfo

Look how it loads into Vegas Pro 17

It's such a mystery why it won't take my tests in the resolution then, especially because if I lower the resolution to 4K it will take the file, but when I extend it to 3840x2880 it stops working! Please let me know if you have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Can you try running more than one instance of OBS to capture your webcam separately?

Systems:

Desktop

AMD Ryzen 7 1800x 8 core 16 thread at stock speed

64GB 3000mhz DDR4

Geforce RTX 3090

Windows 10

Laptop:

ASUS Zenbook Pro Duo 32GB (9980HK CPU, RTX 2060 GPU, dual 4K touch screens, main one OLED HDR)

Yes, that's possible, but I'm trying to have everything in a single file since that makes the process easier / faster for me. Thanks!

The only difference between my OBS files and yours is the kind of bitrate.
Yours is VBR, mine is CBR, try that also.

Just tried that... same result, Vegas won't accept it. I have also tried recording with x264 instead of NVENC and was unsuccessful!

The only way to find out if the cause is your file or your hardware settings with Vegas is to place here a link to a small file that you cannot open, so we can try it also. You have to place it on Dropbox or so that we can download it "as it is".
