Certain mp3 files don't work

Former user wrote on 10/29/2020, 10:39 AM

I'm using Sony Vegas Pro 18 on Windows 10 and I'm editing a video where I'm adding some sound effects that are all mp3 files.

For some reason, one of my mp3 files, isn't working. Half the time it doesn't make a sound in the preview in the program, and when rendered it doesn't show up.

My friend had this problem with a number of his mp3 files, it seemed to be completely random which ones worked and not.
We're still not sure how to solve this.
Does anyone know what to do?

@Former user

Have you considered converting the MP3 files to WAV?

Does that work better with Vegas? I can try that

You should try converting them.

Convert it to PCM online or in Sound Forge if you have it and it opens.. could be corrupted if others are PB ok. In any case it is best to avoid MP3 files for editing.

I've had the time to try it now and the wav format has worked.
I'll be using wav of PCM in the future instead.

Thank you!

Resetting your Vegas Pro 18 may work:

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/i-can-t-drop-file-crossed-circle-and-distorted-mp3-audio--121993/

However, like discussed in this thread, before resetting, can you share your log file called "fileio_x64.log" which can be found in C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Local\VEGAS Pro\18.0\fileio_x64.log ?

Also, we would like to know, do you have virus scanners installed?

Developers are curious with one of this issue and would like to find out.

I did install it from scratch recently, and I don't have an anti virus program, I have an anti malware program. (Malwarebytes) It hasn't said anything about Vegas.

And I did just render it with wav instead, (there were a number of crashes while making the video, maybe that has messed with it somewhat? I had to add back the same adjusted black screen media several times whenever I started the project up again but the last few times that worked well, maybe I inserted it from the wrong window.)

I'll can still share the log, but I'm not sure if it will be the one where I was trying to use the broken mp3 file.
Can I find an old log file somewhere?

this fileio_x64.log will log what dll files are successfully loaded by VP18, so whether you are using WAV or other media source doesn't matter.

That's right, few users also have trouble with this too after just first scratch installations, so perhaps your case may also help developers finding out what's the issue.
